Re: How Will Cambell Be Handled?
I think it's quite obvious that the lack of receiving threats opposite Moss severely limited the Skins' passing attack coming down the stretch. That along with Brunell's sore knee over the last few games.
He's no Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, or even a Drew Brees for that matter. But when healthy he can manage the Skins to the playoffs, given his new weapons. Trying to platoon at QB in the NFL is just plain nuts. The passing game is so much about timing. QBs and receivers need to be used to each other, from the timing of cuts to the speed of the passes to the progression of reads that QBs tend to make. Trying to platoon at QB, even in garbage time only, will not help Campbell one iota. The receivers would have to adjust to him in mid-game after being used to the way Brunell does things. Campbell and the receivers would struggle to get on the same page. You don't do that, it makes no sense. You let them compete in the preseason, then you give 80-90% of the practice reps to the guy you declare your starter. You need to develop that rhythm and comfort level.

Yes. It was obvious that only Moss and Cooley had good production numbers. The reasons might be debated. Quote:

And since we're weighing costs and benefits, what is the cost of giving practice snaps to Campbell? It costs Brunell valuable practice reps with an offensive coordinator he's never worked with before. The end result would be one young QB who isn't fully prepared to handle the new offense, and another old QB who isn't fully prepared to handle the new offense. The ultimate cost of that is a lot of losses. It's just a horrible idea all around, and no NFL coach would consider it.

I understand your objection. I just don't think it would be as much of a problem as you do. |

And I think if it actually wasn't going to inhibit learning as you suggest, then you'd actually see NFL coaches bring QBs along this way. But I never see that happen. It's just not a smart way of doing things.

Re: How Will Cambell Be Handled?
I agree with everything about Thrash sucking. No one really ever gives him his due except on special teams. As a receiver he really did catch whatever came his way and normally was good for a first down when the ball actually was thrown to him.

I'm dying here. LOL! I guess this begs the question: Should we be platooning Todd Collins in with Brunell? LOL

Can we officially "Lock" this thread for those who think Campbell is ready to Start?

That's pretty creative, a 3 headed monster at QB! Hell, let's platoon Randle El in there too. Screw it, just put all 4 guys in the lineup at the same time, nobody will know what the hell is going on. Brunell takes the snap in the shotgun, fakes the draw to Campbell, he turns and fakes a pitch to Collins, then he tosses a WR screen to Randle El who then throws it deep to Moss, TD!! |
