that is the most ridiculous thing to say about a professional athlete. The Redskins and LaVar agreed to part ways. He is out to prove people wrong, which any professional athlete will do. What better way to show Gibbs and Williams that to play them twice a year. The GMen have definately beefed up the D. they signed laVar, brandon short, McQuarters, Madison, and a safety. They have stepped up the D like we stepped up the O. Should be some great games in the NFC east, cant wait!!

Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal

I think they got the whole signals thing cleared up by the 2nd meeting last year with NY.

Things will probably change more with Saunders on board, so I wouldn't worry about it that much.

Since Art Monk played w/ the Jets a season or two before retiring, does that mean he wasn't a true Redskin. How about Rypien, Dexter Manley. Most of these guys ended their careers with other teams. Does that make them less loyal to the skins and their fans. If you lost your job with Wachovia over management issues, or they felt you could do your job anymore, Bank of America came calling with a good salary are you going to turn down a job because you are loyal to Wachovia, dont think so. This is just on a different level than any of us have ever dealt with. There is no loyalty in the NFL anymore. Its about winning, and cash. that is it.

I'm just surprised that the Giants broke the bank for him.

The deal really isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Sounds like it's more like a deal that will average $3M-$5M per year depending on what incentive triggers he hits.

It's unlikely he'll hit enough to average $7M per.

Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal

Check this out, did LaVar screw himself yet again? This is from the NY Post

Quote:
The way Accorsi and assistant GM Kevin Abrams structured the deal (steal?), the Giants assume virtually no risk. Given the status of the player involved, the signing bonus of $5.25 million is modest and, in terms of the salary cap, is virtually inconsequential when pro-rated over the life of the seven-year contract. The roster bonuses in the first two years of the deal are based on playing time, insuring the Giants against Arrington's right knee forcing him to the sideline.

An agent with knowledge of the contract was stunned by the numbers. "Terrible," he said when evaluating the deal from a players perspective. The Giants? "Fantastic . . . they did great," the agent said. "They were a team sitting in the perfect position."

At this point he probably didn't have much leverage to negotiate.

By the looks of his deal, seems like he was willing to take on more contractual risk just to stay in the NFC East.

The fact that he only got a $5.25 million signing bonus is astounding. He gave up $4.4 to leave Washington! Looks like he should have just restructured his contract and played for half as much...

And then we started becoming satisfied with minor "moral" victories like our star LB knocking out an aging QB who had been through countless concussions already. And as you say, this was during a loss no less. Our expecations for the team had become so low that we suddenly didn't even care that our franchise players (such as LaVar) weren't making the team any better. So long as they gave us this one highlight reel.

Well, the best part (or one of the best parts) about Gibbs return is that he's reminded all us fans that our expectations should be high. That we shouldn't be satisfied with the occassional big play. No, we should demand and expect a winning team year in and year out.

I'm not saying LaVar is entirely to blame for the endless problems that surrounded his tenure here. And there's no need to badmouth him as leaves. But we shouldn't be satisfied when we look back on his tenure here by saying well he intercepted a pass against the Panthers, and he knocked out Troy Aikman. More was expected of him, and he should have provided more. He may do very well with the Giants, and maybe he'll help them win division titles, playoff games, and even more. But he didn't do that for us. And we're starting to win without him.

Ok, now I'm just rambling. Point is-good luck lavar but I think we'll be ok without him
I am not sure what you are talking about with low expectations. Every year the expectations for the Redskins was playoff bound. If anything, we had high expectations(righfully so with all the money Danny spends) and under performed. That is what it seems to me. I dont blame it on one person, it was a team effort we lost every single year. But I think some of the problems started from the TOP of the organization.(Danny being too hands on). I think a difference since Joe got here is very visible. Danny isn't in the picture, he is just signing the checks. Coaches are taking over the team or who plays and who doesn't. Joe is in charge of getting his players, and GW in charge of who he plays. This is a good sign for future years. I do think the organization is on the up and up with or without LaVar (obviously without) Guess I need to change my login.

What are you planning to do now about your username... I mean you have over 650 posts... You can't just start over. I just hope the Redskins don't get a new #56 and he is teh suck. That would be awkward.

Yah, and Art Monk would have never gone to the Eagles.....
And Gary Clark would have never gone to the Cardinals (then a division rival).......
And Brian Mitchell would have never gone to the Giants and Eagles.......

I mean come on, that's a higher standard than you would expect from any other professional athelete. Lavar never showed the Skins organization any less love than the organization showed him. Things didn't work out here, so be it. It's a shame, but it was a mutual understanding that this just wasn't going to be the place for Lavar anymore. But once he's a free agent, he's free to sign wherever he likes.......just like hundreds of other former Redskins who came through this organization.

Would you seriously doubt Gary Clark's, Art Monk's or B-Mitch's love for the Skins just because they went to rivals after playing here for most of their careers? All I ask is that guys leave gracefully, and that's exactly what Lavar did. Don't take parting shots at the organization on the way out, and I wish you nothing but luck except for when you play the skins. He handled himself as a professional on the way out the door.......too bad some of us on this board can't do the same.

Might just keep it to piss some people off. Maybe we can get someone to fill the jersey. We forgot about Champ pretty quick w/ the way springs is playing. Maybe the next 56 can get us to forget about LaVar?

Yeah, that'd be cool if we got a "new and improved" #56... True about Champ and Springs, definitely. You could also probably get an admin to move your posts over to another account...
