Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
If Brunell looks like shit in the first half this weekend against the Colts D, then Gibbs should put the team in Campbell's hands in the second half. The Colts are without their star Strong Safety and if Brunell can't capitilze on that fact alone, especially with our speedster receiving core, then I will at the point in time, lose all faith in Number 8. I respect Gibbs's committment to veterans, but Jesus Christ man, if Gibbs can't see what going on here, then maybe he should hand the team to Campbell on the field and hand the rest of the shit off to Williams off the field. I am mad as hell with Saunders's play calling as well. There have been multilple times where Brunell will be left with a 3rd and long and what play is run? A mutherphucking screen to Fauria or Cooley or Sellers or the old "trick" draw play to Portis. I have never seen so many three and outs by a team with as much talent as this one. Brunell - - THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE DUDE! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER PRETTY BOY, OR SADDLE UP AND RIDE OFF INTO SOME VIDAL SASSOON COMMERCIALS OR SOMETHING......AGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I know Brunell can play at a high level, and he has shown it this year. We are learning a new offense, and it is very difficult to make it work smoothly on the field sometimes. Like Tony Dungy said, sometimes it looks very sharp and effective and other times opportunities are being missed for big plays. Gibbs is right that the quarterback play is not what the problem is, and two other anonymous NFL personnel people agreed as noted in a recent article.
Another factor is that we have had a strong defense to rely on the last two years and now the offense has to be perhaps the main tent pole holding things up, yet the offense has all the new plays to learn and the new players to integrate. It is a tough time right now if you are expecting wins every weekend. However, I think that you have to be open to putting Jason Campbell in as the starter this season. The key is that you don't put him in unless Brunell gives you the second best chance to win the game. I believe that players have to play themselves out of a job, or someone has to be a better player to deserve to start instead of them. That way players know that their effort and performance are what determines who plays, and not arbitrary decision making. Only by basing it on performance do players have the right motivation to play at their best. Campbell could provide a spark and an intangible lift because he is young and perceived as the future starter. He has had a chance to watch and observe. He won't have the experience or savvy of Brunell, but he brings a lot of talent and intelligence to the table, and at some point he may give the team a lift enough that playing him will give us a better chance to win than Brunell. It may indeed happen that the call is made soon: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/pl...ne=77667&spln=1 ESPN.com reports that the Redskins are preparing to make a switch to Jason Campbell "sooner rather than later." Washington are staring a 2-5 record in the face unless they beat Indianapolis Sunday. Then they have a bye week, a logical time to make the choice. Forward thinking owners in 2-QB leagues might want to make a move now. Oct. 20 - 5:16 pm et Source: ESPN.com Insider |

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
What if Gibbs waits until we are mathematically eliminated to put in Campbell, and he sets the league on fire? The "why didn't you put Campbell in sooner" questions will start flyin' And that would be a huge thread! As far as Roethlisberger goes, he wasn't all that great abyway! Pitts. did not ask him to do much in terms of having to "win" a game. Pitt. played D and ran the ball. Big Ben only threw maybe 15 times a game during that stretch. HAIL from MCUSA!

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
I'm pretty sure they don't pull Brunell because even at 2-5 somehow it won't be obvious that the season is done. There will be no 8 and 1 finish for them. They're a bad football team. However, Gibbs said yesterday he doesn't think pulling Brunell would help, so as long as he thinks that, he's gonna leave him in. That makes me think we might not see Campbell this season. I think Joe is smarter than that, but we'll see.

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
Did anyone catch Gibbs' postgame comments where he said he didn't even "want to think about [starting Campbell]" and that Brunell played great?

Re: Jason Campbell: when will the switch be made?
He said maybe because Gibbs has a huge man crush on Brunell that blinds him from seeing what everyone else is seeing. I think Gibbs is a great coach and all, but he is definitely wrong on his decision to keep Brunell in there. I mean, I know i'm not the only one that saw Brunell throw to the nearest receiver on third down and come up short everytime. He threw the ball to Betts that one time even though he saw the defender that was gonna tackle him as soon as he got the ball there. That and Brunell is afraid to go deep. For once will Saunders ignore the fact that the situation doesn't call for it and just heave the ball down there?

Sheriff, you are arguing with the wrong person chief. If I was running the team, I would have ditched Brunell after year one. I am saying that Gibbs may replace Brunell once they are mathematically eliminated. No sooner and he may even let the bible thumper finish the season. I know this much. Jesus Christ can throw a 25 yard post.... |
