Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?
That's your opinion...but the fact is that Gibbs isn't the only coach who believes in giving the young guy the clipboard for a couple years, and it's proved to be just as effective. Moreover, the season isn't over yet, and we may in fact see Campbell either this weekend or possibly sometime before the season is over.

Again, our season is done. We need to know what Campbell is capable of period? What would be the upside of starting Collins? Anyone?

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?
Its obvious that Gibbs loves his veteran QB's . Its been that way ever since he came to DC. I don't know why people are so surprised/outraged that he hasn't started Campbell. I mean, I want Campbell to play too, but I know how Gibbs is and we'll just have to play the waiting game. Does it suck? Yes. Do we get anything out of complaining about in every f-ing thread? No. Best thing to do is wait and see. At this point, it doesn't really matter who's under center because the problem is a team problem...not just one player.
Trust me, I want Campbell just as bad as the next guy, but we have to be realistic and wait for Gibbs to make that decision. Thats all we can do. |

No one is arguing that. The point is, it's not always the best thing to throw the young guy into the fire before his time. This isn't something local to what Gibbs does apparently AND it's proved to have been good for QBs like Green, or Rivers.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?
Who cares how old a QB is when they are selected to be the starting QB? All that matters is are they selected when they are ready? For every QB that starts out playing great as a rookie there are 5 that can't cut so they become journeymen QB's for the rest of their career. The question is simple: Is Campbell ready to implement Saunders offense? If yes, then play him. If not, keep him in classroom and on the sideline to continue learning.
The funny thing is Collins really should have been the starter at the beginning since Campbell was not ready. Does anyone think that Brunell knew the offense better than Collins? Campbell could have been watching a veteran of the offensive system execute with more efficiency than a veteran who is also learning the system. Even if Collins is a terrible QB, which I doubt since he's been in the league for so long, he at least would be more familiar with his reads thus showing Campbell how the system is designed to work.

But he's getting old and who is to say that last years was the best year the Skins will ever have out of him. This offense is broken and needs to be fixed. To fix a car you put in new parts. At this point what the hell could it hurt? Brunells feelings? Who cares about that?

The same can't be said about our situation now, because we're obviously 3-6 and sinking deeper and deeper into the quicksand. But, a year ago, we did make the playoffs and appeared (for the most part) to be on the right track. In my opinion, the only changes that we should have made were the additions of BL and ARE....but that's beside the point. The point is, there were high expectations from everybody for this team to not only make the playoffs, but to make a serious run for the Super Bowl. Brunell should have had a better year just for the fact that he had more than Moss to throw to now. There was no reason prior to this season, and even after our slow start, to assume that keeping Brunell in was a bad idea. While I contend that there are more problems that are contributing to our downward spiral, switching the QB has not been the answer until now.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?
It's hard to tell. It could've been the speed of the game, but he just seemed to struggle as much as everyone else. I do seem to remember one good showing out of Collins, but I was mostly impressed by Campbell.

ok now we're in complete agreement, almost. while i do see why we started with Brunell this season, he definitely earned it last year with his solid performance - i think it was more than apparent that our defense wasn't the same and Brunell couldn't even try and make up that difference alot earlier than week 10. you do seem to recognize that it's actually called for by now, but do you really think it'll happen now?

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?
let me start by saying this : Ramsey, if you go back to the video of the Bears game was playing pretty damn good. the ball was going down the field, which we have not seen so much this year. I can't believe we still talk about Ramsey, but I guess a lot of us still wish he was here.
now, about Collins. there is a reason he has been a back up his whole career. if JC does not play over him I think that sends the signals that Campbell isn't as good as the coaching staff thought(because that hasn't happened much, recently) the thought of bringing in Leftwich or Green is crazy. One, Leftwich hasn't been tearing it up as a starter and honestly dont think he would fit with the offense. too slow on his release, but probably better than Brunell. Green, would know the offense better than anyone in the NFL, but again he's like 36 years old. Aren't we shoving someone out the door that is that old? This organization has to realize they have to play the younger guys (campbell) and let them grow. Now is the perfect time to do that. Look at Vince Young, he didn't play so well early, but has played decent enough to keep them competative the last couple of weeks. I know Joe doens't like playing rookies or young QB's, but this isn't the 80's and 90's, you invest so much money into these guys you have to play them. not even mentioning the draft picks that we may have wasted if he doesn't get a shot to play. |
