I don't want to make this about Brunell, but he consistently spread the ball around this season as much as Campbell did yesterday. That's not what separates the two of them.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I think the poise he showed was the most positive aspect of his game. With that poise and ability to run the offense on the road everything else should develop over time.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Jason Campbell had a very good game. He showed poise and the ability to throw downfield with accuracy. Too bad the receivers dropped some. He also had good pocket presence, he knew when to take off and run and when to check down. He moved around well in the pocket. He did all this when Tampa Bay was sending the kitchen sink at him. The offensive line play on passing down was good. The blocking on running plays was mediocre. The defense didn't help at all. They were on the field too long and didn't the Skins offense enough opportunities. The two turnovers were touchdown saving turnovers that prevented scores but didn't give the offense an advantage.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
B+
He needs to work on his consistency, but he looked good for his first start. Honestly, I'm not sure he did much better than MB would have done, but the big difference is that this is JC's starting point - MB had peaked. Hopefully there are exciting things to come! |

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
There's no way in hell Brunell throws those down the field. He also doesn't evade that sack.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I'm not suggesting that MB would have made any particular play - and definitely not the throw to Lloyd that was dropped. I'm just saying that, on whole, I would not have given MB a B+ for that level of play (i.e., in terms of bad throws, bad reads, etc.). JC gets the B+ because he played a helluva game for his first time out there, and he showed a LOT of promise.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
Indeed.
He just needs to tighten up that accuracy a bit. But overall, he was right on the money.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I loved him completing the pass with the defender hanging on his jersey!

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
He gets an A.
Why? 1. His poise. 2. He made plays even when the receivers did not. 3. I get to say FU to those who stayed on the #8 bandwagon.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I say the kid gets an A closer to a B. He did an excellent job of managing the O, without much help from the run game. 197 yds, no INTs, and 2 tds in your first game? That's better than some starting QBs in the league right now. I'm scared for opposing Ds when Santana gets back. Laser arm + blazing speed= TDs all day

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
I said B-/C+ because to me
A = Peyton on a good day A-/B+ = Brady on a good day B = Roethlisberger on a good day last year B-/C+ = Brunell on a good day last year He certainly didn't make outstanding plays and adjustments and just play a superb game at QB winning the game for his team for an A. He didn't execute an entire play book and spread the ball around without mistakes and put his team in position to win for an A-/B+ I don't think he quite played mistake free and kept his team chugging along for a B. I do think he played relatively mistake free and gave his team opportunities to make some plays. I think he was on the line between and this and the higher grade but I gave him this since we lost. I think his effort gets an A and his peformance gets a slightly above average B-/C+. If he plays every game like that the rest of his career then he'll win games. Hell we would have won yesterday with an average performance from our defense. |

I gave him a B. Although, after reading the posts, maybe he deserved an A. |

Re: Grade Jason Campbell
He really hangs tough in the pocket and keeps his eyes downfield, very refreshing to see.
