Zorn 'calling out' Portis, for lack of a better term, showed that he wasn't scared to take on a star player. What happened afterward was a bit of backpedaling & it became apparent that Zorn was doing some damage control. Don't know to what extent DS played a part in it, or if Zorn just realized that it didn't help to talk to the press.

Either way, he often showed that he has ideals & standards for his players to live up to in preparing for games. I see him as just about as laid back a guy as norv personally, but he brings more energy to his work & commands more respect by being on top of things. Just my observations.

Remember when Zorn took the punter's head off after blowing a snap. I can't remember all the details, but I can't imagine WP or Norv doing that.

Zorn has to show that his version of the westcoast offense will work in the NFL. His playcalling skills have to stay aggressive play to win, not play to "not lose". Jason Campbell has to have a probowl year.

I honestly think Zorn will get a legitimate shot.Gibbs taught Snyder that character and loyalty goes far.For those who will bash Gibbs, the locker room was a joke and players didnt have to take responsibility, before he arrived. And the only bright spot of the Taylor incident, is that it brought the locker room tighter together.Gibbs may have not won on stats and records, but other areas he improved.Zorn is a fiery guy,and there will be run-ins with players but just because he wants more wins for the team.As a first year coach he did good compared to averages.See what he does this season it might suprise us all.

Simple, ain't it.
You think 9-7 secures him a job?

If we make the playoffs with that 9-7 record I think it does. If not we let Zorn and Campbell walk imo.

I agree with the nosedive part but to say Zorn might be canned if we dont sweep Dallas is funny.

I hope he does well and we can see him and the team grow together since we have not allowed any coach to stay for very long other then Gibbs but I had seen on another message board where people feel Zorn is a dead man walking meaning he's simply holding the spot until next yr when DS can get the man he wants. I found this to be interesting also......

Shanahan wants another head-coaching job, possibly as soon as 2010

Punter Durant during the Cards game last year. And Durant didn't blow it according to the announcers at the time.

I think Zorn got on Durant because of his attitude about the missed FG.

Can you show an example that backs up your fear? Every coach that has been fired, has been for cause, except Marty possibly.

When DS hired Zorn, he had to know that the guy had never even been an OC, and would need time to grow into the role.

a lot of naysayers that make the comment about DS firing Zorn, also seem to say that no big name coach will come here. (KI I don't know if you had held both those positions, but it seems to me that that is the typical line of people who generally dislike the FO). If the big 4 would not come here anyway, why would we not keep JZ.
And you should remember that Zorn was hired as the Offensive Coordinator, not the Head Coach. Only after every big name coach available turned down Dan Snyder did Jim Zorn get promoted to HC.
I like Jim Zorn but I don't think he has total control over who starts on this team, hence... the reason why Dan keeps getting turned down by more established coaches.

Actually, Durant did flub it, but not the snap, it was that the ref's had not set the ball in play when Durant called for the ball, so everyone had to reset and it resulted in a rushed kick.
