Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
[QUOTE=ethat001;673244]$12 million sounds like a lot for a 30 year old RB, but I understand that only a portion is usually guaranteed as stated above. Anyway, running backs retire WAY earlier than other positions since they get so banged up. 40 year old QB's are not uncommon, but 33 year old RB's are almost unheard of.
Anyway, I agree he technically has less mileage than his age suggests.[/QUOTE how can you say that? he lead the league in carries a couple of times. and i think he might have set a record for most carries in a season. he has got a ton of mileage on him

The fact of the matter is Clinton Portis isn't the ideal back for grinding out short yardage. In his younger days when he was quicker, he could knife his way through tiny holes to get tough yards. But not so much anymore.
You need a bull around the goalline, and Johnson still fits that mold. I like it.

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
Plus, correct me if I a wrong, but didnt he have a pretty serious injury that kept him out his entire rookie season? I mean, a history of knee injuries to an overworked 30 yo bitchy RB doesnt really strike me like he is our back of the future, but why waste $$ and time on this asshole? Sorry, this move officially effin sucks. There are much better/younger options, especially if ppl think shanny can turn any RB he touches to gold. This might be his biggest project/challenge to date.

I'm in the minority, but I like the signing. I think he tallies more yards than CP next season. I think them splitting the work load is important. Just like our jobs, it's important to find a company you fit in with and go from there. Hopefully LJ fits in here. I need to look at his career carries, but I think it's significantly less than CP.

And if he reaches the incentives, you'll be happy. It's a very low-cost deal.

I am not saying he is overpriced, I am saying, why waste money on the guy in the first place, even if its a C Note. The guy is old, and an unstable personality to say the least.

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
PEOPLE I'm not 100% behind this BUT we only have 5 picks in this draft unless we pick up more & we have so many holes to fill. Maybe this won't be the year to draft a RB WE ONLY HAVE 5 PICKS you do the math.

When you are 4-12 you can't worry about signing a bunch of boy scouts. If he helps the team (and I think he can in more than one way) you sign him. If he is a problem you cut him. His deal is peanuts so it really is another no risk deal with possibly a huge upside. |

Re: Redskins Sign Larry Johnson
Opinion is all over the place on this signing. Portis and LJ may be a little past thier prime but teams generally keep 4 or 5 RB's so there is still time and roster space to add 1 or 2 more young RB's to the mix.
I am okay with the signing actually. I think he may have a little more left in the tank then most of the other veteran RB options. He did a lot of riding the pine in his early years.

Signing LJ makes sense. he has a lot less on the clock than these other FA runningbacks. LJ ran behind not bad but HORRIBLE lines for years. I don't think he is done. |
