Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
Bullshit! You're telling me Devin Thomas can't get on the field to run a button hook? A screen? I also think Thomas scores on that catch where Armstrong trips over the turf. The guy can even block from what I've seen, so why not use him on a chip block occasionally or a crack back? Something!
How can anyone make the argument that Devin Thomas can't break a tackle or go up for a jump ball or be used as a decoy to stretch the field? Physically speaking, there's not ONE receiver on our team more gifted than Devin Thomas. It just doesn't make sense on so many levels. The only conclusion I can come to is that Mike Shanahan loves veteran, warrior practice players. Look, Shanahan is a competent NFL coach but I seriously question some of his methods at times, which has ill served this team in my opinion. |

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
He damn sure looked viable last year against the world champion Saints and one other game. And how do we know he's not viable if ain't seeing the dang football field?

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
At least promote Terrence Austin and cut Roydell Williams, what has Williams done? Austin will at least do something.

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
The only thing that makes sense is that they believe Austin has more upside then Thomas, and since he was a 2nd rounder, they may still be able to get a decent return out of him. Other then that, I don't see what the WR corps has done that is all that positive. Armstrong seems to be able to get behind the defense on occasion, but I am not sure he plays the ball well in the air. Galloway is a fossil and I don't think Banks can get off the line of scrimmage consistently. Not sure that any of the WR on the roster will be there long term.

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
It's quite clear that Devin Thomas is the offenses version of Albert Haynesworth. Something DT did in the off-season irked the hell outta shanahan so bad that he never got over it. I remember it being reported that DT only made it to 55-60% of offseason workouts, just enough to keep a presence around Redskins Park, and not have to pass a conditioning test when getting to training camp. Shanahan is uptight so that might have been all it took.
Whoever said that other receivers are just "running around like decoys" is outta their mind. They have specific routes that they JUST CANT GET OPEN running. Thats how this boggles my mind. Galloway hasn't done anything except that 3rd down catch yesterday. But i dont think he should start for catching a 5 yard slant. Devin Thomas is 6'2". The only receiver on our roster with decent size. I dont think in today's NFL we can have the Smurfs 2.0 (trading Devin and activating TA). and PS. Devin Thomas is faster than TA. Yes, agreed, Devin Thomas had one productive year in college, BUT WHEN THE HELL WAS THE LAST TIME JOEY GALLOWAY OR ROYDELL WILLIAMS WAS PRODUCTIVE?? There is a reason Galloway was cut by two teams last year. He wasnt productive with Tom Brady throwing him the damn ball! Roydell hasn't even played organized football in 3 years! Thomas's worst attribute was getting drafted in the Zorn Era cuz he spent two years practicing with beach balls, bells and whistles, fun and games, and now we're being run like a professional organization. He's not adjusting well. Clearly, its not for his on-field play cuz up to this point, he doesnt have any :-( I am totally against this move. Ugh.

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
I just cannot come to grips with Joey Galloway being better than Thomas but I have to defer to the coaches.
What about this bizarro world where Brandon Lloyd is one of the best receivers in football?? |

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
Coaches have access to more than just stat sheets. Actually, I don't think they bother with stats that much because they can see and evaluate the tangibles right in front of them.
And Thomas has McCardell as his coach now, so whatever he's failing in, it isn't because of coaching.
