There needed to be changes from the bend but don't break philosophy of past redskins d to hasletts philosophy. And part of that was letting go players like Rogers.

And the play with Evans burning hall- hall still had good coverage on Evans. It was just a problem because if hall knew he wasn't going to have safety help - he NEEDS to jam the receiver at the line.
Well, we certainly expect to improve our run defense over last year, given acceptable linebacker play, and Ryan Kerrigan gives a second legitimate pass rushing threat. So it's not all bad. Haslett's philosophy is that getting pressure on the quarterback can lead to big time plays if you have the right guys on the field.

Are Josh Wilson, DeAngelo Hall, OJ Atogwe, and LaRon Landry the right guys to have on the field? Well, if the pass pressure takes as long to get home as it did last year, there's not much range out there and every one of them is a hard biter on double moves. Plus, those shorter passes are going to be there regardless of the down.

Basically, I think the defense has to excel on first and second down so that this group can drive on routes in third and long. A big problem last year was that we weren't good in standard downs, not to mention passing downs. We're still not going to be very good on passing downs. However, the longer the opponent has to go, the better Wilson, Hall, and Atogwe will look out there in coverage.

Can we stop a 3rd & 4 with those guys on the outside? Probably not against most opponents.

The Redskins have no schematic solution if teams want to spread them out and isolate poorer cover players. And with the Patriots, Cardinals, Bills, Rams, Seahawks, and Eagles on the schedule, I think the pass D could be in for a long year compared to the run D.

I think D hall has some good, bad and ugly to him.

Good in that he takes chances trying to jump routes, bad in that it leads to him being burnt on double moves, etc. Good in that he will try and bait QBs into throwing his way so he can step in front but bad in that he will play off the guy and give up more receptions than if he just tried to blanket the reciever.

Even his attitude is a double sided coin to me. Good in that i think he gives it his all for the B&G, but bad in that he causes unnecessary trouble and extra stuff on the field.

He is what he is to me, love him when he takes one for 6, hate it when he gives up 6+ receptions in a game trying to get that one pick 6.

Because the names escape me. Also with those being Superbowl winning teams, I thought there may be a name or two that we could rank in there. To me this thread seems a little to soon in DH's career with us, but if we are playing the game, then is there a corner in there who you all would rank higher than Dhall. That is all. I know we had some good guys back then, but Green is the one who abviously sticks out in my mind. I was still a little kid back then so my memory is failing me.

D. Hall continues to write checks with his mouth that his play doesn't back up.
You know what I noticed? The guys at the bottom of the YPA against list as well as YAC against are all highly drafted and or highly touted corners.

In other words, the constant overrating of high-profile corners by front offices and fans: it's bigger than a D-Hall problem. He may be the most egregious example in that people already saw the writing on the wall before his big extension in 2009, but plenty of teams are having the same issues with "no. 1 corners" that we are with Hall.

thanks, that's a nice list. If only we'd kept Champ, he'd be another Skin in the hall. If Rogers stayed a few more years he would be more appreciated in Skins history too.

Re: Where does D. Hall rate as a CB for the Redskins all time?

In each of the last two seasons, DeAngelo Hall has dropped only one fewer INT than Carlos Stone Hands. In 2010, only four players dropped more than three INTs, the amount that Hall put on the ground. Rogers was one of those four players. He dropped four.

Gtripp stop presenting facts to back your argument. Why don't you emotionally support all players on the team while ignoring their play. You are a hater.

Hall still catches more than Rogers. Perhaps that's not saying much, but still.

The Rogers mistake was not extending him in the middle of the 2008 season. By the time our new regime came in, Rogers was nearing his 30s, a mark he passed during the lockout. If we had extended him during his ascension, we'd have had him under contract in 2011, 12, and 13, and wouldn't have had to decide between paying him the obscene number he was asking for, and going in a different direction.

I think BA made the right decision to go younger. But its a non issue had Vinny done the intelligent thing a couple years ago. But he had worked himself into such a bad cap situation, that he didn't know if the money to sign players would be there until they decided to dump Marcus Washington, Jason Taylor, and Shawn Springs.

If Rogers is the gold standard, then Hall is a playmaker.

Compared to Rogers he is a playmaker lol. I think that's why some have an inflated view of him.
