Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating
Yup. God and science simply can't coexist. Oh wait ...
“There can never be any real opposition between religion and science; for the one is the complement of the other. Every serious and reflective person realizes, I think, that the religious element in his nature must be recognized and cultivated if all the powers of the human soul are to act together in perfect balance and harmony. And indeed it was not by accident that the greatest thinkers of all ages were deeply religious souls.” Max Planck "My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble minds. That deep emotional conviction of the presence of a superior reasoning power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God..." Albert Einstein More Einstein: "The most beautiful and profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the source of all true science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms -- this knowledge, this feeling, is at the center of true religion." Mendelson, Copurnicus, Lemaitre, Kepler ... Clearly, they simply prayed their way to brilliance.

Science disproves religion.
<Edit out cherry picked quotes> We have far greater minds now taking the side of science against religion due to the cowing of bullying theists than ever before. |

Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating
Science disproves religion? Oh please, let's see the theorem and proof. As always - your religious devotion to science amuses me.
And as always you mistake the argument: The universe is infinite, thus, by definition, proof that science can prove all is impossible. As CRR stated, given the infiniteness of the universe (both great and small) to claim it is knowable by humanity is the height of hubris and certainly not borne out by anything science has shown us. There is and always will be a gap between what we know and what there is to know - if science shows us anything it is that gap is larger than we could possible imagine. Your faith in science, however, appears to prevent you from acknowledging such a gap even exists. To me, for someone who has such a religious devotion to rational thought, the extreme hubris of your position in light of the infinite is mind bogglingly irrational. Figuratively speaking, you are not even a speck of sand in the Sahara and yet you appear to claim you can count and name the snowflakes in the Arctic.

Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating
True story - my mother once told me that we should not have a space shuttle or space program because we will all be damned for trying to get near heaven while we are still alive.
I think she thinks heaven exists just beyond the orbit of the moon.

Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating
there is simply willful ignorance on both sides of the argument.
Those who argue there is no god, when the infinite and infinitesimal of the Universe argue otherwise, are as foolish, as those who say God is and therefore science is not. JR's post of the symmetry, balance and complimentary nature of Science and God, is a reflective and rational approach. |
