Re: Fixing the Secondary

I'd be happy if we signed Mitchell.

It seems as if there are no good players out there other than Byrd and Ward?

Good football players are never a step slow due to good football instincts. Good DBs don't have to run 4.4, low 4.5s isn't bad db speed. Football isn't a track meet. There are diamonds in the rough everywhere.

Bringing in highly touted FAs that are given a starting position can be a confidence killer to a young guy with potential.

Now, if your saying that you have no confidence in the skin's front office to identify talent or the coaches to "coach em up" that's a whole different discussion.
Exactly.

Several players at Safety, Oline and WR could put this team back in the playoffs quickly.
So when has this strategy worked in the past?

Re: Fixing the Secondary

Weve tried to polish so many turds here for years now especially in the secondary. Sign a legit cover safety or watch us get burnt next year. Like we need more to complain about. We have Orak, Kerrigan, Amerson, Perry, all homegrown guys. Let gruden draft his offense. If it goes the opposite so be it. But i feel like safety needs to be addressed bigtime. Not lets see what happens again. I didnt want Rambo to not pan out either but.. you trust this guy?? He looked awful game 1. Your a rookie its your shot.. i dunno bout a guy like that. If he turns it around ill be happy but very surprised.

Its as easy as that here. Why sit around and lose games next year. Address these positions and start winning again. Win.. but i guess Jairus Byrd or even Mike Mitchell arent worth it right? No more bums!

So grow your own players but dont pay them in their prime. Got it, makes sense

Hold on, did the signings of Morgan and Wilson hand tie us somehow? No not at all. Damn people really forget Vinny and his contracts. You want to criticize anything about them is the talent evaluation from the coaches, not the contracts from the team. They were both affordable, low risk contracts.

People forget, Josh Morgan had garnered the interest from about 5 teams...

For every Josh Morgan there has been a Pierre Garcon.

For every Josh Wilson there has been a DeAngelo Hall.

We could debate this point forever. Yet, I get what you're saying. You're flexible about signing FA's as long as they are the right ones.

I think free agency can help us but we definitely don't want to get in cap hell with bad FA contracts or continue to think that FA is going to save us. It's just one of the ways to build a team, with the draft being the primary way.

We just need to to do a better job of evaluating personnel so there are fewer misses with both FA's and draftees. Poor personnel decisions has been our bane.

Also, in most cases, I think it is better to go with younger FA's who the Skins think are about to step up to a higher level of play. Pierre Garcon is an excellent example of a smart FA signing, IMO.

Re: Fixing the Secondary

I don't think anyone is asking for a free agent spending spree like in 2000, and does anyone really think Allen would spend foolishly on over the hill vets like that??

Heck no....and I don't understand why some fans still cling to that old stigma.
Its ancient history.
You may as well expect them to acquire all very old defensive players because that's how George Allen did it.

Seems ironic to say that since his father brought us the "Over the hill gang".
