Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

At halftime, they had interviews with some of the Ravens players, and I applaud what Canty said in reference to the news sites showing the video. He said it was disrespectful to Janay in the fact they are forcing her to relive a horrible moment in her life, and that they should show better respect. I actually agree with that.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

I don't get the uproar over the video.
From day one the report was he knocked her out in an elevator, the video shows him knocking her out in an elevator.
What did you guys expect to see?

First and foremost Rice should be in jail.

What was Goodell thinking when he suspended him for 2 games?
The fact that he did not attempt to watch the video of the assault is unbelievable.
Goodell gave him a 2 game suspension, that should be that. I don't understand how they can suspended him again. This isn't new evidence, it's been there available the whole time!!!

I would like Goodell to serve an indefinite ban for his handling of this case.
I hope Rice fights the new suspension but I also hope he ends up in jail and never plays in the NFL again.

F... Ray Rice and Goodell!

They were expecting to see her instigating the fight (as she claimed and apologized for) and the video shows otherwise. That's what the uproar is about. (to me)

Hearing about something and actually seeing it are two different things. Imagine if there was tape of Vick killing dogs? He likely would have had a tougher time getting his 2nd chance.

I concur with this sentiment as well. It truly is one thing to hear it and another to view it.

I think there's a general lack of imagination that doesn't allow people to understand things without having actually witnessing them. For example, when Goodell allowed Michael Vick to play without having to face further suspension after being released from prison, there was an awful lot of people who believed he should be allowed back because "he had served his time." If there were videos showing him executing (through torturous means) the seven dogs that he personally executed, I believe far fewer people would have concluded that he served his time and instead would forever be sickened by the mere mention of his name. But why? Because of that lack of imagination; the inability to understand the terrible nature of things not experienced first hand. And I use the Vick case because it's an easy example, but there are many other social problems highlighted by the general Ray Rice reaction. In the examples of Rice and Vick, the lack of imagination allows us to gloss over terrible things. However, in many other cases, it prevents us from feeling empathy for others when we should feel empathy, etc.

Well said Coff and I agree to some extent but we aren't talking about Mike Vick and killing dogs. We are talking about domestic violence and punching someone in the face.
most people know what it is and don't need an imagination to figure it out.

Statement from Mrs. Rice:

Janay Rice defended her husband and criticized the media.

"I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend," she wrote in an Instagram post. "But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare itself. No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted [opinions] from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing.

"To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!"

Not trying to crawl in to this woman's head but I think it demonstrates the whole "conflict of interest" issue mentioned earlier.

The good old blame the media argument. I get it to a small degree, but your husband is a public figure who knocked you out on camera. In this day and age if it's on camera, it's going to get out eventually.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

Not only that,

(1) Domestic violence and violence against women has been a topic of discussion all summer.

(2) With all due respect, it's not all about you and Rice individually. It's larger than that; its a demonstration of what is and isn't acceptable in society. This incident was, unfortunately, just a microcosm of something that happens across the country in many homes everyday. It needs to be held up as a clear symbol "This is wrong. Women - don't tolerate this; Men - don't act like this."

(3) I have a daughter. I am outraged at the thought that someone may actually believe this is an appropriate way to treat my daughter under any circumstances. Sorry if you disagree Ms. Rice, but I will let the world know - do this to my daughter and I will hunt you down and inflict grievous injury upon you.

(4) I have a son. I am outraged at the thought that someone may actually believe him less a man if he refuses the path of violence to resolve conflicts between himself and someone - particular a wife or gf - who is inherently weaker than him.

At this point, unfortunately for Mrs. Rice, the events in question are part of a much larger conversation we need to have as a society.

she is mad at the media? How about the man that punched you out?

I worked at a hotel a long time ago as a desk clerk. If woman was beaten they (woman shelter) bring her there as like a safe house for a few days. The hotel company offered the room as complimentary. No one knew they were there. I didn't even know who was in the room it was just booked under a fake name. One time one of the husbands showed up and proceeded to beat his wife again, how did he know where she was? She called him.

Domestic violence is a awful circle of abuse.

Correct.

Acceptable = knocking your wife out with no video of it.

Unacceptable = knocking your wife out on video.

That's what this incident has shown.

There's a sh*t ton of hypocrites strutting around lately.

'Fox & Friends' jokes about Ray Rice video spark outrage

"After discussing the latest developments in the Ray Rice situation — in which the star ex-Baltimore Ravens running back assaulted his then-fiancee in a hotel elevator — Kilmeade joked, “I think the message is, take the stairs.”"

Amazingly poor taste

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

She may have only stayed for the money and now, since the new video came out, there won't be any more money. That may be one of the unspoken reasons she's pissed.

I feel sorry for her but not because of the money. They can live on the money he's already made. I feel sorry for her because she is with a man she can't trust and probably fears.
