Andrus Peat, Leonard Williams, or that dude from Iowa.

La'ell Collins as an early 2nd could be a nice steal too

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Re: How the draft looks if we trade down

IMO we can't draft Scherff or Peat. Even if we play them at RT, draft slotting and the end of rookie contracts means that we'll be paying two left tackle salaries. Such would be salary cap hell.

Actually that's why I might want to trade down. Grab a tackle later in the first who will be capable and whom we can pay a RT salary. Then we could use an extra pick from trade on a guard.

Re: How the draft looks if we trade down

We have a lot of holes on this roster. Conventional wisdom would be to trade down and acquire more picks. But this rosters got way to many pretenders in important positions. We need to put some superior talent in the trenches. If we could trade back and still grab a guy like Brandon Scherff, Cedric Ogbuehi, Andrus Peat, or Ronnie Stanley. I would be completely satisfied with one of those guys at RT. If we could pick an extra second in the process. It make it all the better. The guy I really want is Scherff. He a day one starter with all pro talent.

Unless Williams is there, we don't. We see what offers come in and try to trade back a few spots only. Then we pick the best lineman available from the several that warrant a say top half of the first round pick of which there should be a few.

It bears repeating that it is the identifying/evaluating of draft talent that we have an issue with and that certainly needs fixing (being dealt with on other threads.)

I think you have the right idea but you might have the wrong player. This is a passing league, as you know, and I think having Randy Gregory opposite Ryan Kerrigan would give a major boost to our pass rush. Also, unlike others, I haven't given up on Jason Hatcher as an inside pass rusher. Nevertheless, if Gregory isn't there but Williams is, I suppose the Skins might feel like they have to take Williams.

I wouldn't have a problem with trading down into the the middle of the first round to pick up another second round selection. One or more of Ronnie Staley, Andrus Peat, Brandon Scherff, and La'el Collins should be available in the middle of the first round. Scherff and Collins could probably play RG as well as RT.

Of course, I'm also hoping that the Skins can pick up some OL and DL talent in FA.

I would be surprised if they went for Gregory after spending a decent pick on Trent Murphy last season. I suppose a lot will depend on the new DC in terms of what he feels is the key defensive jigsaw piece come draft time. We certainly need to produce a more effective pass rush and get some pieces through FA too for the multiple needs we undoubtedly have.

You could be right but, so far, Murphy hasn't scared anybody with his pass rushing skills.

Which brings us back to the point that we need to be better at identifying and developing our draft picks.

Murphy has at least been very solid against the run. Just gotta keep coaching him up. He wasn't a wasted pick.

If people want to watch the 2 qbs worth drafting in the first, tune in today. Oregon and FSU playing today. Marcus is gonna play a real defense today, not that pac 10 garbage

Yup. It should be renamed the Quarterback Showcase Bowl. Let's see if anyone has a Vince Young-like bowl moment that pushes them up the draft.
