Phillips would be a good stop gap and he's a master of the 3-4. We could do a lot worse. There's a lot more to being a good coach than emotion.

I want someone that will require discipline, that is something this defense and for that matter the whole team has lacked since Gibbs left. Yeah, I've seen Phillips throughout his boring career, he is a decent DC.(better than Haslett for sure) I'm not satisfied with being average after 21 years of losing, I want a young hungry guy that wants to prove himself. I'm tired of retreads doing the same shit with different teams and getting canned after a few years. I want a winner who will change the attitude of the defense like a young Richie Petitbone. Give that Barry guy a chance, sure why not?

I will take a discipline guy if they get one, but your discounting of Phillips is ridiculous. I don't think he ever was fired as a DC and he is widely recognized as a top tier DC, not a run of the mill retread.

A good coach is a good coach. Getting in players faces may work at first, but, without good coaching, it wears thin fast. What matters is getting results. W. Phillips gets results.

Like others have said, he is not a long term plan but he is a HUGE upgrade over Hazlett.
I got no problem with WP. I would count us lucky to get him.

Just to be clear, the only reason Wade wouldn't be a long term solution is that he's 67. Not everybody can be Dick LeBeau (77), lol.

Given that a year from now likely we will be doing the total housecleaning that we should be doing now, no one in the FO is a long-term employee.

Wade Philips is a good choice for a one-year rental.

I just reviewed Barry's stats from his stint in Detroit...yikes! Gave up the most points and most yards...BOTH years.

I'm not sure why we're looking hard at him at this point.

There has to be better candidates out there.

Kinda amazing folks ready to give up on Jay g already.

I think wade Phillips would be a solid addition. Think he could do a good job with the defense, also could help Jay as a head coach. Wade could offer great support to the staff as a whole.

I agree with you about Wade.

And I'm not giving up on Gruden (although I have my doubts) as much as I'm done with anything that involves Bruce Allen, as such things always end in disaster.

He took some time off to model for the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Can't blame him, really.
