Re: Skins-Broncos game thread

We are controlling the clock and putting up yards, but coming up short on points. I think we lost this game because we were missing Springs, Harris, Hall, and Tupa (in that order). No QB pressure = no turnovers = bad field position = fewer points. That needs to get fixed.

I was saying the samething to my fellow Redskins' friend on the phone when we ran that play. I guess, though, we don't see the samethings that the QB thinks he sees. Of course, that should have been the winning TD, considering we scored a safety.

Re: Skins-Broncos game thread

I only followed the game online and I won't get to see it until I get the DVD next week, but to me the equation is simple. 400+ yards of offense and we only score 19 points? Penalties, turnovers and inability to score in the redzone cause that. False start on a FG? Fumble by the QB? Mistakes that may not individually have killed us, but cumulatively it all hurts.

JG wants this team to stop making mistakes. He's going in the right direction, but now he can see we can put the yardage up there, it's about time he starts letting the offense off the leash more and allow them to make more big plays.

Likewise on D they have to turn Arrington loose, even if it's only from the end position. We need turnovers bad. And if he wants such a disciplined D and players who stick to their assignments, maybe he should re-iterate that to the guys that let Bell go for not 1 but 2 big plays. I don't care how disciplined this D is, we need play makers. It's great getting 94 yard potential game tying drives, but I want at least 1 short drive every game because we got the ball off their O!

I agree with you, except it was Portis that fumbled.

I think all the coaches will think much harder about this now that we lost one.

Re: Skins-Broncos game thread

this is the first time we have faced a speed back this season. all of the rb's we've gone up against have been mainly power backs with relative speed. our d looked real slow today. and it showed that if you can get to the outside of this d it may be a weak point. oh and by the way how many more times does ade gotta get beat to get cut??

How ironic it's Bell that had the big day against us. It's nice to see our second round draft picks performing so well..

Re: Skins-Broncos game thread

While dissapointed that oppurtunities slipped away and they weren't able to get the win, there is no way any us should be dissapointed in what the offense did today against one of the top 5-10 defenses. Brunnel is developing an incredible chemistry with Cooley and definitely with Moss. This is one of the first games in a while that I honestly believe we lost the game and not that the team was beaten. I'm looking very forward to the game next week against a much more suspect defense than any the team has faced thus far. The main worry I have about the team so far this year is the special teams. Two blocked field goals by a rookie kicker in 2 weeks, commiting a false start on a made 54 yard field in terrible kicking conditions, inability to make fair catch calls when needed, and holds/blocks in the back.
and I just saw them say on the Redskins post game coverage that Lavar not playing is all about Williams not fully trusting Arrington playing within the scheme and until that happens, he's not going to let the man in the game.

Nah, there was a defender right in front of him, if he made a break for it someone would have closed on him really quick.

See I thought there was somebody there-Sellers maybe?-that Brunell could have pointed to and been like "block that man" and he could have rolled right in. But hey, they shouldn't have been in position to need that 2-point conversion anyway

Yeah I'm not sure who that was in front of him either, maybe Sellers like you said, I think the play was designed to go to him but he was well covered.

Brunell could have tried it, but Patten broke free and the defender made a good play on the tip.

Re: Skins-Broncos game thread

I too thought Brunell could have taken it in, but Patten was WIDE open, Gold just made a nice play on the ball. When two good teams play each other, it just takes one person to make a big play for them to win the game. Denver made more big plays than we did, so they won. I thought before the game that Denver was a very good football team, and I still do. I think the fact that we went to the last play with them speaks to how good we are too.

In addition, I just want to say that Santana Moss is the biggest acquisition that this team has had in years. Thusfar he has had more big games than Coles did in 2 years, and he's been better than any other big name trade or signing or anything that we've had. The guy is money.
