A good MLB corps will include Zach Brown, but he needs a much better running mate next to him. Foster can play for me as a 3rd MLB.

At safety, DJ is OK and Nicholson looks promising but I wouldn't stand pat there either. Everett belongs at the very bottom of the depth chart. A good safety tandem needs to have somebody extremely rangy back there. Nicholson could be it, but we just don't know if he can stay healthy. So I'd look to get a top notch athlete back there somehow and tell all of them to sort it out by competing for jobs in camp. Ideally, that new guy will be so good that he'd go to the top of the chart, and you'd have Swearinger and Nicholson fighting for the 2nd job.

Corners, I'm actually fairly excited about Fuller and Moreau. Happy with Norman too. Dunbar's a good 4th. But you can't have too many corners so draft another.

And then where it matters most, the defensive front / rush. I think Allen can start on a top notch defensive line, and Kerrigan can on the edge. Otherwise, not good enough all around. I'll take Ioannidis as a rotation guy in the nickel, and Lanier for depth. But Stacy McGee, Ziggy Hood and Terrell McClain should be rotation guys at most. We need a stud to play next to Allen. A stud DT who can both disrupt the run and the passer.

And Preston Smith, Trent Murphy, Junior Galette and Ryan Anderson should be rotation guys on a decent team. I want a speed rusher on the other side of Kerrigan.

This is what the best defenses look like, solid at every spot, and average players end up in rotation/depth roles.

I'd definitely try to put the 1st rounder towards the defensive front or the defensive edge rush, provided it's not a reach when we pick.

I agree 100%, which is why I wouldn't be against Derwin James or Minkah Fitzpatrick in the first round were they available, but you make a great point that people miss, solid defenses are solid all around not necessarily full of stars, look at the Eagles, it isnt that they have stars all over the place but they have about 7 guys who can give you solid solid production, a la Kerrigan. I am with you on Fuller and Moreau, love them

A disruptive NT/DT is crucial for this defense. AJ Francis, Ziggy Hood, Stacy McGee and injuried Phil Taylor was the weakest link when playing over Center.

Ryan Anderson is the guy on the defense I’m most interested in going into next year...where does he fit? IF Sua Cravens comes in dedicated to the team...big if...I like out safety group.

Sign Zach Brown...which I don’t think will be hard.

Vita Vea next to Jonathan Allen would be something special.

Playoff games alter Kirk Cousins' market, but possibilities remain - Washington Redskins Blog- ESPN

It's looking more and more like the best option for the skins is to franchise and trade Kirk. Get something out this.

I don't know if anyone will give up a 1st for Kirk, with all the young QB's in this draft it will be hard to imagine that. MAYBE Denver but that is a Big Q too with their money situation.

I don't get why the transition tag option gets disregarded so quickly, here and in the media.
If the FO can ask (or at least get a feel of) if Kirk would sign offers from other teams in that situation, then it's a good option:

-either he signs a crazy offer that you don't want to match and you can finally move on and say "We should've signed you 2 years ago, but you played it right, good luck to you we're not paying that kind of money"

-or he signs an offer that you're willing to match and you know you got him at market value.

You only need to know that he's not gonna make it backfire by not signing any offers and just taking the 28 M. But I think he made it pretty clear he wants to get settled. So I'm guessing the FO could get that information from his agent.

Makes more sense now, and yes the JETS are the team I worry about the most actually.. They have a ton of room and have said they are interested before. In fact weren't they rumored to be a trade partner for Kirk a couple years ago?

Mmmmh. It was my understanding the only things to match were the average/year and the guaranteed money.
Must have misunderstood, can't find anything online really detailed about what you'd have to match.

You're required to completely match the offer. Everything about it. If he gets a QB nook in a deal with Denver, you have to match and give him a QB nook.

Everything. From signing bonus, to yearly salaries, to roster bonuses, to incentives, every last thing.

My understanding is not everything - they cannot put POISON pills in the contract - i.e the contract becomes fully guaranteed if Kirk cousins plays in DC 4 games next year. This was done away with at the last CBA

However you do have to match salary structure, bonuses and incentives.

On top of this, if we match an offer- lets be real, Cousins doesn't have to sign our offer over the other teams. He can choose Denver or whoever. I think people forget he has to WANT to stay in DC over another team.
so lets all be real and just come to reality that unless we tag him for 34 mil, hes gone unless Allen and Snyder overpay him grossly.

From wiki (yeah... sorry):

"No Offer Sheet may contain a Principal Term that would create rights or obligations for the Old Club that differ in any way (including but not limited to the amount of compensation that would be paid, the circumstances in which compensation would be guaranteed, or the circumstances in which other contractual rights would or would not vest) from the rights or obligations that such Principal Term would create for the Club extending the Offer Sheet (i.e., no 'poison pills')."

But yeah it does imply everything else has to be matched.

However about the bolded part, under the transition tag I'm pretty sure Cousins would have no choice but to play for the Skins if he signed an offer that we would match.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?

I think it comes down to this, if the Skins are serious about keeping him, they need to come strong with an offer that screams we want you back. Otherwise let him hit the market to gauge his true value and hope he’s interested in letting the Skins counter.
