Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0

Buffalo and Arizona could both clear up room and structure a deal to fit their cap if they really want to.

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0

A couple of interesting articles on Cousins.

A look at what's happening around the*New York Jets:

1. Struggles against top competition:*The Jets' anticipated pursuit of*Kirk Cousins*is a hot-button issue among fans in New York. Should they shell out $30 million a year for the prospective free agent or try to find their quarterback in the draft? Both sides can make compelling arguments, but here's a factoid that might provide some clarity for those on the fence:

During his time with the*Washington Redskins, Cousins' starting record against winning teams is 4-19 (based on their opponents' final record).

Yes, 4-19.

Cousins has cleaned up against losing teams (19-9-1) and has fared OK against .500 clubs (3-2), resulting in an overall record of 26-30-1 in the regular season. He is 0-1 in the playoffs.

http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-je...ive-jets-pause

nish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports*the Jets are not planning a history-making contract offer that would include $60M in the first year.*This was recently suggested, but Mehta reports the franchise is not prepared to wildly overspend to land the 29-year-old quarterback.

However, sources informed Mehta the Jets would “absolutely love” to add Cousins. But they won’t be radically changing the NFL landscape by offering the passer a fully guaranteed deal.

Don't hate, just don't think he is worth the kind of money he and his agent do. Nor do I believe especially last season he was playing for anything more than stats to try and justify getting paid.

All the rational posters are quieting down and we’re left with Chicken Little SolidSnake, DanHas73ConspiracyTheories, and Oklahoma Redskin Running up his post counts.

Cousins is good, not great. Someone will overpay because demand outstrips supply of QBs. I’m glad it won’t be us overpaying. Smith at 23M, even minus Fuller, is preferable.

There were reports last season players complaining all he was doing was stats padding. And others were writing about it as they were observing it.

Totally agree.

After the initial knee jerk, this team can't get anything right, reaction passes, I believe they have really come out pretty well.

Completely fine not wrecking our cap and overpaying for a good, not great QB.

Smith is solid all the way around and his cap responsible signing made losing Kirk more than palatable, it made letting him walk seem like the smart move.

I hate losing Fuller, but agree, QB is so darn important, he had to go to get Smith.

These reports came out when?

When they were going to Home Depot Sunday morning to see if they could find warm bodies to field an O line?

Our running game after CT went down was horrendous.

A link would be nice.

I had about three or four players from the Redskins — who don’t dislike Kirk Cousins — literally reach out to me during the season while I was on this show saying to me he can play, but don’t go by his numbers always,” Smith said on Tuesday, via*Dan Steinberg of The Washington Post. “Because, they said, there had been many occasions where we’ll be down, or we’re struggling, and what he will do is pad his numbers, calling certain plays in concert with the offensive coordinator, putting himself in a position where his numbers look good even if it’s not necessarily the right play that could help us get stuff done.”

*Go back and watch some of Cousins’ performances*in 2016. What you’ll find is a quarterback enjoying clean pockets, throwing to wide open receivers and struggling mightily when those luxuries aren’t afforded to him.

Cousins is very much a product of the system Scot McCloughan and Jay Gruden have so brilliantly crafted. He doesn’t transcend the system like the truly great quarterbacks we have in this league*— the Bradys, Rodgers and Lucks. If anything, Cousins has held a stacked offense back with*his aversion to taking risks.

The first artical is Sean Salisbury and he actually states in the article itself, that it's just his opinion.

Stephen A Smith, a crap stirring carnival barker, is the source for both the 2nd and 3rd article and that's from March of 2017, which means it was talking about the 2016 season.

I can't think of any disgruntled receivers who would have wanted to bad mouth Kirk on their way out the door to Tampa and San Fran.

Name one skill player on offense this year (2017) who would have any standing at all to bad mouth him. Our receivers sucked, our running backs sucked (except CT), and our TE's sucked. Kirk was our best offensive skill player and it wasn't even close.

https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/stats/passing#yards

The air yards stats kill this narrative every which way.

His aversion to risk is not necessarily related to padding stats.

I do believe that Jay wanted him to take more chances but his not putting the ball in harm's way doesn't mean he was selfish.

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0

The trade is incomplete until after free agency starts. I already like the trade but if we resign some of our guys and bring in some solid FA's we're really in business.

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0

The stat padding theory is weak at best and mostly classic hater talk. Right from one of the links above:

Quote:
There are issues with what Smith is saying, not the least of which is that it doesn’t make any sense.

First, what’s good for Cousins is good for the Redskins. If the quarterback is posting big numbers, it stands to reason the offense is moving and, one would hope, putting points on the scoreboard. Second, if the plays are being called in concert with the offensive coordinator, Cousins isn’t really responsible for the plays at all.

If Smith’s point was that Cousins produces a lot because the Redskins frequently are trailing or are in garbage time, that might be another story. Smith probably should provide some evidence to back that up, though.

Yea. And again, that is most likely from Garcon and DJax talking about the 2016 season.
