I generally agree with your Darnold take. The big issue, of course, is that if he's good you have to pay him immediately. Which is the allure of rookie QBs. I personally don't like either of the QBs that may be available at 19 (Lance/Jones), and I sure as hell don't want to trade up for Fields (Not a fan. At all). If we could somehow get up to get Wilson I'd be thrilled, but I can't see how they'd be able to do that. My preferences would be: A. Trade the farm for Watson (unlikely) B. Trade up for Wilson (unlikely) C. Trade a 3rd for Darnold (?) D. Sit tight and pick off the scrap heap for this year (likely)

Yeah I'm glad they kept him on board

Hope he hits the gym hard this offseason. Durability is definitely the major concern with him.

Rationale: we aren’t going to bet the farm on a top tier QB. We will settle for signing/trading for a mid tier vet QB who will be in competition for the starting job. Because of Heinicke’s familiarity with the system, he is ultimately going to win the starting QB competition.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
that is my biggest concern with him . . . i think he can play, as long as he can stay on the field and be playing close to 100%, not playing injured all the time or missing games.

I guess these shirts will really start flying off the shelves now
Kind of cringe that we're selling a shirt based on a QB that lost a playoff game |

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021
I love the move. I hope he gets a shot (barring Watson/Wilson surprise) I don't think any other qb out there deserves the automatic starting nod anymore than he does.
I wonder what they do with Allen? |

Seriously, solid move, would be stupid not to give him a shot, and at the very least keep him as a good back up. Plus, when you're trying to build a culture, you keep guys that earned it. Especially when it doesn't hurt you cap wise.

I'd put Allen as the favorite to start if it comes down to him and Heinicke. |

That said, I think it's unfair to label him as a qb who lost a playoff game. The Bucs defense was legit, and Heinicke moved the team effectively. It was definitely the lack of pressure that lost the game. Add in the fact that he was only on the team 4 weeks, and I think the t-shirt is a right fair play. My birthday is in June if anyone feels the same |
