That is a good thing IMO.

When others are brief, they usually have something meaningful to say. That's called being concise. You however type few words, yet say even less.
Your posts add nothing of value. Defense bad, Cousins good. Grunt.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
Like Schneed was saying, a defense can be built even with signing Cousins, it isn't like we have no talent on defense, looking at each level individually:
Defensive line: Jonathan Allen- Showed how well he can collapse the pocket, he only had 1.5 sacks but he made everyone else better and we saw how bad the defense got when he got hurt. Matt Ionnadis- See Jonathan Allen, before his hand injury, he and Allen we reminding me of Malik Jackson/Derek Wolfe in Denver a few years ago, love that tandem going forward. Anthony Lanier- He has size and you can't coach that, and we saw him bat ball after ball down, showed he had some nice pass rushing moves, I believe he had 5.5 sacks this season in limited play. Linebackers: Zach Brown- NEEDS to be resigned, was arguably our best player this year, basically got him on a steal, watched him make play after play that we havent seen from a LB since London Fletcher first came over ironically from Buffalo. Ryan Kerrigan- Everyone seems back and forth on him, saying he never makes the big play against the big teams in the key moments but 13 sacks is 13 sacks anyway you slice it, he will never be JJ Watt dominant, but he can be a key part in a good defense. Preston Smith- There are times I love him and there are times I wonder what he is doing back there, he did have 8 sacks and a couple ints this year, I like him and what he can bring, and when Jonathan Allen went down is when I saw his production dip but he did pick it up towards the end of the year. Secondary- Kendall Fuller- He was finally healthy this year and it showed, 4 interceptions and was the 7th rated CB according to PFF I believe, he is a top level slot CB and could cover outside if asked but I think he is at his best in the slot, expect him to continue to develop out these next year. D.J. Swearinger- Made some awesome plays this season (Vikings and Raiders) and got burnt a couple of times (Eagles), but he was solid for the majority of the season and was a leader. Notable names: Montae Nicholson (looked good before injury) Josh Norman (We know what we are getting) So the talent is there, we could add some more but I still dont like our coordinator

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
Yeah Mason Foster is a fine player, but if he's a starter then you have a hole on your defense that the best offenses can exploit. He's not fast enough so a good coordinator can figure out how to get a guy isolated on him and exploit the matchup.
A good MLB corps will include Zach Brown, but he needs a much better running mate next to him. Foster can play for me as a 3rd MLB. At safety, DJ is OK and Nicholson looks promising but I wouldn't stand pat there either. Everett belongs at the very bottom of the depth chart. A good safety tandem needs to have somebody extremely rangy back there. Nicholson could be it, but we just don't know if he can stay healthy. So I'd look to get a top notch athlete back there somehow and tell all of them to sort it out by competing for jobs in camp. Ideally, that new guy will be so good that he'd go to the top of the chart, and you'd have Swearinger and Nicholson fighting for the 2nd job. Corners, I'm actually fairly excited about Fuller and Moreau. Happy with Norman too. Dunbar's a good 4th. But you can't have too many corners so draft another. And then where it matters most, the defensive front / rush. I think Allen can start on a top notch defensive line, and Kerrigan can on the edge. Otherwise, not good enough all around. I'll take Ioannidis as a rotation guy in the nickel, and Lanier for depth. But Stacy McGee, Ziggy Hood and Terrell McClain should be rotation guys at most. We need a stud to play next to Allen. A stud DT who can both disrupt the run and the passer. And Preston Smith, Trent Murphy, Junior Galette and Ryan Anderson should be rotation guys on a decent team. I want a speed rusher on the other side of Kerrigan. This is what the best defenses look like, solid at every spot, and average players end up in rotation/depth roles. I'd definitely try to put the 1st rounder towards the defensive front or the defensive edge rush, provided it's not a reach when we pick.

Josh Norman who for some reason some folks here have trashed lately, he had a very good year although he didn't have any INTS and only 2 FF, when asked about that he said "Well I didn't get many chances" the reason for that is teams don't throw his way much at all. The guy is 30 and in his PRIME, we would be foolish to let a top 10 CB get away. Fuller is a beast, Breeland is prob gone but Dunbar has proved he can step up.. Our weakest pos is pass rush, RK (who I've hated on some) is really all we got. Need to address that asap

We had one with Rak... But like I said above, we NEED a consistent pass rush in order to be a top tier defense. Look at NO, MIN, JAX AND NE.. All have guys that get to the QB, yesterday Cam Jordan was a monster all day.. We don't have that guy

The only time this year Preston Smith looked valuable was when Allen was healthy and pushing the pocket. The Saints have Cam Jordan but Sheldon Rankins was helping him out quite a bit. The Vikes have Everson Griffen but Linval Joseph was a difference maker. The Jags acquired Marcel Dareus in the interior and now look even better on defense. I think Allen is one of those very disruptive forces for us. I'd like another, with Ioannidis and Lanier in contributing roles. Edge rusher is huge but I think one more stud interior lineman would have the biggest impact on the entire defense, making the jobs easier for the edge rushers and the MLBs.

I agree 100%, which is why I wouldn't be against Derwin James or Minkah Fitzpatrick in the first round were they available, but you make a great point that people miss, solid defenses are solid all around not necessarily full of stars, look at the Eagles, it isnt that they have stars all over the place but they have about 7 guys who can give you solid solid production, a la Kerrigan. I am with you on Fuller and Moreau, love them

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
A disruptive NT/DT is crucial for this defense. AJ Francis, Ziggy Hood, Stacy McGee and injuried Phil Taylor was the weakest link when playing over Center.
Ryan Anderson is the guy on the defense I’m most interested in going into next year...where does he fit? IF Sua Cravens comes in dedicated to the team...big if...I like out safety group. Sign Zach Brown...which I don’t think will be hard.

Vita Vea next to Jonathan Allen would be something special.

Did you watch the Redskins games this season? Because Kirk did look like a franchise QB then. Despite our WR corps and team as a whole not being good. Did you watch the two seasons before last season, when he set franchise records each year? Because Kirk also looked like a franchise QB then. Our team still wasn't that good, but our WR corps was. People saying that due to the increasing pass-happiness of the NFL, stats are meaningless. Then what happened last season compared to the past two? Answer is that even a franchise QB can only do so much, when Allen and Snyder have run down this team so much. Kirk is still a franchise QB. Phillip Rivers is a franchise QB, Same as Stafford, Ryan, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Eli Manning. They aren't as good as Tom, Ben, and Drew. But you don't trade them until they are well past their prime, you build your team around them. You can debate where Kirk falls in that group, but he is in that group. |

Let's be real. A huge reason the Patriots can do what they do is because they have one of the top QBs in NFL history that takes much less than what he could get so that the team benefits. He values winning more than he does getting max dollars. It's a unique situation and one we'll probably never ever see again while we are alive. Not many men marry models worth 300+ million while they themselves are worth 180+ million. Look at Brady's cap hit the past years: 2013- $13,800,000 2014- $14,800,000 2015- $14,000,000 2016 - $13,764,706 2017 - $14,000,000 This allows you to continue to have a competitive team year in and year out. You won't find another QB to give up the kind of money he's given up to keep his team competitive. That's one thing I admire Brady for. He's left a lot on the table in order to win. Then again, it does help when you and your wife have a net worth of 500 million dollars. On a side note, it's amazing how very little the Patriots spend on the OL.
