I may take heat for this but in my opinion he's the most talented secondary player on our roster right now when healthy.

Strength, Speed, Tackling, Coverage, experience, leadership is above everyone else. He needs to be here.

Yeah you will take some heat and I'll start

Taylor is far and away the most talented player in the secondary and perhaps the entire team. Has he lived up to his potential yet? No, definitely not. But from a pure raw talent perspective, I think Taylor is easily one of our top players, if not the very top.

Springs when healthy is definitely a very talented corner. He does have an impressive all-around skill set. Like you said he's physical, good speed, and he's been around the block. But if we're comparing raw talent, I don't think Springs can even come close to Taylor.

I have a strong feeling that GW sees something in rhis guy that made him compel Gibbs to personally talk to him.

My only concern with our signings thus far is that we are dedicating a lot of signings and roster spots to the secondary. This is great b/c they struggled last year BUT we are neglecting our depth on the O-line. I am not saying we should cut Springs, but if we can entertain some sort of trade scenario that will either give us a starting OG or a 2nd round pick (or something) that will give us the ability to draft a starting OG, I would say springs is now expendable.
Let's look at it another way, we've got most of our cap tied up on the O w/a no. of D players towards the end of their deals. Plus our greatest needs are on D. We've been able to address the secondary in the offseason, and as Matty pointed out the O line to some degree too. That leaves us the draft for D line & maybe a guard or safety if the right players are available.

Other than the Briggs drama, this seems to have been a great offseason. A trade down in the draft would really be icing on the cake.

All you CJ haters get over it, hes a skin.
I like you're thinking! Did you read this somewhere? Is there a link?

I can't remember the last time Springs was burned for a TD or picked up a personal foul or dropped an interception in his hands. That's all I'm saying. Taylor's potential is Ronnie Lott. I'm sure there are some prisoners doing time now that could have been the next millionaire or executive. Potential means nothings when not used properly.

What he means is that players only restructure when it benefits them. Springs money is all guaranteed, and he does nothing but give up money to restructure.

Ok everyone listen up.

A typical restructure in the NFL means a player takes his upcoming season's base salary, which is not guaranteed, and reduces it to the vet min. He then takes the remaining part and turns it into a bonus, which is guaranteed. It costs no more money to the team and doesn't reduce the money that the player makes. But it does allow the player to get his salary all at once rather than as game checks which many players look at as a benefit.

Restructures like this ALWAYS benefit the player. There's no other way to look at it.

Some teams don't ever do this but the Skins do it quite often and usually they include an incentive like a little bit extra in the converted salary to bonus.

The situation with Springs is this. They asked him for a reduction in pay. They did not ask him to do a typical restructure. How do we know this? Because he said no. He wouldn't say no to having his UNguaranteed money turned into guaranteed money.

And not all of his money is currently guaranteed. That is not even possible with the CBA. Every player has a minimum salary that he has to receive based on how long he has been in the league. Salaries are not guaranteed.

That is all.

Additionally, we would have no reason to want to restructure Springs, pushing money into future years, when in all likelyhood, he's in his final year here.

Asking for a pay cut makes sense, but you can't expect a player who has market value like Springs does to comply.

Cardinals message boards aren't thinking to highly of him. I'm pretty sure he'll be better than a Rumph or Wright...

Heres a little link from the message board, doesn't really mean anything to me.

Re: David Macklin our new CB

I looked at his stats from when he was with the Colts and Cardinals. It looks like he can catch the ball. Thats a positive. The real Question is where is he gonna be on the depth chart. We know ade plays Special Teams. I don't think he will be ahead of Rogers or Smoot. The good thing is that the skins have 4 quality corners on the roster going into next season. Focus on the Dline and the defense will be back to its normal self of harassing the other team. More and More i think about it though Laron Landry would be great with Sean Taylor, but D tackle or an end is more pressing need.

I thought this quote was actually pretty cool.........otherwise, I could care less what any Cardinals fan thinks.

"being that i grew up with him, it was very cool seeing him play for the cards the last 3 years. he text'd me wednesday night that he was signing with washington to pursue his lifelong dream of playing for the redskins. imma cards fan for life but imma gonna go check him out in DC. best of luck to him."

Freddy - I agree with you - I think the Bears being greedy has saved the Skins from making the trade for Briggs. I would say if the Skins can trade down 2 times to pick up multiple picks it would pretty much cap a fantastic offseason. Granted we lost Dock, but the Bills threw a stupid amount of money on him so we smartly let him go to not blow our cap.

The team is going in the right direction - just don't do the Briggs trade and address the D Line and hopefully trade down to get additonal picks and we are back on track.

Yeah, on the boards they were saying he gets a little to many PI calls. I'm not looking forward to that.
