Re: Who is Next?
It should be Willliams. He would be the best fit right now. But I think that Williams and Saunders will have a problem working together. They just don't seem to mesh well and I think Gibbs was the balance between them. I would not be surprised to see Williams get the job but we end up looking for a new OC. Here's an idea--get Mike Martz--who runs the same system Saunders does--and who I believe Williams respects and likes.

Re: Who is Next?
i'm all for promoting from within but greg williams has no business being head coach.some people are just meant to be coordinators.he did nothing with the Bills whom had a good defense and Bledsoe at the helm, and campbell and collins aren't no Bledsoe. Don't bring any college coaches even if its my beloved Carroll. They're to wishy washy. I think Cowher is what we need. Which is stability

Re: Who is Next?
Honestly, I just don't know. I really don't want Cowher because while he did win a super bowl, he was conservative in play calling. He had a good Oline to run the ball, and while ours is good, it's old. I like Cowher, don't get me wrong, but Campbell needs to fly, and I don't think he will in a Cowher run team. So my vote was for Saunders from the simple standpoint of thinking about the offense and getting it running to 100%.
I do not want Williams as a HC...he proved to be a poor HC, but a good DC. Although, I could go for Williams as DC IF they brought in a great DC along the lines of Marvin Lewis or something. In other words, I'd prefer that the Skins kept everything in house in terms of promotions to keep the same offenses and defenses. We were just now "getting it", and to bring in a new coach means he will bring in a new system and other new coaches and now we're back to a 3-5 year plan.

Re: Who is Next?
I definitely want GW. If we bring back an outsider, especially Cowher, we will essentially be starting over. If GW becomes HC we can keep our roster intact, and the chemistry going, plus it sounds like the players are really lobbying for GW.

Re: Who is Next?
How is bringing in a coach who's defensive theory is completely different to the one we've had continuity. Remember - Pittsburg, 3-4 defense; Us, 4-3 defense.
Cowher will probably ditch the current defensive staff (Do you think GW is going to coach for Cowher?) If Williams goes, so go Blache, Gray and Jackson (at a minimum).

Re: Who is Next?
If Saunders was to get the job I would imagine he would stick with TC.I may be wrong, but I just don't want to see JC back on the bench.

Re: Who is Next?
I've been sitting here thinking and thinking of who's next, and I just don't know. There is good and bad with every scenario. I just don't want to tear up this team after we started to get it right finally.

Re: Who is Next?
Please not Cowher, or for that matter, any other "big name" coach.
Cowher is retired for a reason, he wants a break. Sure he could be lured by big $, but it that the type of motivation we want? that's been the problem w/players & coaches here, they come for the $. Joe was an exception, he wanted the challenge. Cowher has already won a super bowl. We need a guy that has something to prove & wants to build a team & reputation. Some of the pieces are in place, so hire GW. Although it's eerily similar to Pettibon's hiring in 93, GW has been a head coach before and now he's matured under Gibbs. Hire GW w/the condition that Al remain as OC, just as Jones did w/Garrett in dallas. |

Re: Who is Next?
I picked Williams...but mainly because I don't want to see everything we have now torn down. I certainly wouldn't hate the hire of Cowher, but Jsarno makes a good point about his offense being conservative...and wasn't that what everyone has been screaming about here for the last 4 years???? I think if Williams is hired and Saunders stays, I think everything stays very positive going into next season...especially from the point of view of the players!!!
