El Paso looks dirty and is poor, so I think it gets a bad rap. But that doesn't mean that it's riddled with crime.
According the 2006 US Census, El Paso had 609,415 residents.
City Mayors: Largest US cities 2007
you have to scroll down a little, but the top cities are listed.
Keep in mind those are counted as ONLY those that live within those city limits. For instance, Boston does not count Cambridge, or DC does not count Arlington.
You might be thinking of El Paso COUNTY that has 700,000 or so population, and seeing the size of El Paso county makes you realize how few people are there outside of the city.

I agree with you about Juarez making the area very populated, but you are talking about another country, and with the passports that are required to travel back and forth, that cuts down random visits.
Also, if an illegal alien, or non US resident makes a criminal act, it doesn't go against El Paso, it will go against his own country. I was told that by someone who worked in those statistics, not sure if it's accurate, but it makes sense.

Here is a map of El Paso, and people can see for themselves that it's in the middle of nowhere:

I know we are going to disagree. But there is an actual reason El Paso has a bad rap, and it's not unjustified.
Again I ask you, why do SOOOO many houses have bars on the windows?

By the way, are you a hunter?

Not to cause a stir, but does that mean, Chevy / Ford / Dodge / Cadillac / Pontiac / Buick etc are all the same too??

German cars are are very similar in parts, as are the ones above. When it comes to fixing them (German cars) it's just not that different between VW, Audi, BMW..etc.

.. and you love to cause a stir, don't kid yourself.

LOL...that's not true. I just happen to cause a stir because I don't live (and never did live) in the same areas as a lot of people here. So our views are different.

Re: BMW 1 series

BTW- after talking to salesmen, it looks as if in order to get what I want, it will take 3 months to get it ordered / delivered. That wasn't the deal breaker...the deal breaker was when they said that I wouldn't get what I deserved for my trade cause they have to "estimate" what my trade will be worth in 3 months.
I talked to my wife, and we decided to keep the truck and more than likely in a year or two (after the truck is paid off) I will make a solid run at a Corvette.

What great advice. I wish I had known that when I was fixing up my 540i. I could've just put a VW clutch in there and paid half as much!

Nice car, that's for sure, but that's waaaaay out of my price range.
1. I don't like Vetts (the newer designs do not impress me).
2. I am looking for Speed, luxury, 4 doors, and an automatic.

I think it's either you love em or leave em...I LOVE em. I am a Vette fanatic. The new designs are the best IMO. I always hated the flip up headlights and these new headlights are more Ferrari-esc.

Vette:
Speed - check
Luxury - check (the new ones are LOADED)
4 doors - no
automatic - could be, but that would be a sin.

I understand you'd be looking more to a family car. I do not need to do that. A vette works for me. Might as well chase the dream huh?

Me too. Just to clarify things a bit though. I do not particularly like automatics. The car I have now is a stick and I love it to death. The only reason that I am looking for an automatic is because of the heavy traffic. I am sick of fighting with a stick in the stop and go traffic. That is why I am looking for some luxury as well. Recaro seats just arent enough of a creature comfort anymore. In short my body is aging beyond the race car thing. This does not change my desire to drive fast. I just want something more comfortable to do it in.

I completely understand, however, I would emplore you to check out a new corvette. The luxury of the car is far underrated. Not saying you should get one due to the fact that you have a mini zoo over there, but they aren't grandpa's race car anymore. The Corvette has made huge strides in becoming a luxury sports car, and they succeeded in my opinion.

The reasons you mentioned in this post and others is why I was looking at a BMW. However, I do not have the traffic out here so the stick issue is a nonissue with me. Traffic is one of the things I miss the least about Boston.

How interested are you in the Lexus? (realistically)
