re: Redskins Sign Shaun Alexander (Merge) *updated*
he can catch. i don't think he fumbles much, but has the potential to be soft. Remember when the Skins knocked him out early in the 2005 playoff game? I think what probably hurt SA besides nagging injuries was the loss of that stud tackle Seattle let go to Minn. Can't remember his name right now...but it seemed like SA had his biggest decline once dude was gone.

My thoughts exactly. We should have never let him go. I knew a situation like this would come up. I even stated it before. What happens if Betts or CP goes down. Who is going to back them up. Cartwright..?? Cartwright needs to step up his returns and special teams play. Everyone was hailing him the capt of the Special teams and his vaulable experience. How many kicks have we had ran back on us so far. We should ahve primed someone else for returns and kept Mason..I got kicked off extremeskins for argueing with a dude about this. I got pissed off because he kept throwing up stats that were irrelevant about Rock. Is Mson on thier practice squad or final roster?

He says he's been working out in Washington (state I assume) with an Olympic trainer and is in GREAT shape and 100% healthy finally. If this is true, look out, this could be fun to watch.

I like this move. It's very low risk, high reward for the Skins.

But i forgot he played so horribly. He didn't convert a couple of 3rd conversions and had a fumble on a return. But other than that he played well enough to make the team. But we were in dire need of depth at LB and on the D Line. Not to menion keeping a hurt receiver on the roster. Who can't stay healthy enough to play in one game.

These were the reasons that were given to me when the debates over keep mason on the team arised. But I haven't seen Rock's pay-off so far.. Hopefully I am wrong. Because I said we would need that depth at RB also incase CP or LB got hurt. I hope Shaun Alexander shows up and plays well. Maybe our offensive line will be the difference. If he's a dud. Then I think it was a bad move. But it may not be because we are not losing anything in this. I just think Mason would have been better because he has been with the team and knows the players and scheme. Plus he is "slightly" younger and has more upside and would be more vaulable to us in the future then Shaun Alexander.

Mason is a better RB than Rock.. proof by the signing of SA. Why did no one else pick up SA?

He may not be as dangerous as Devin Hester, but you don't have to worry about Rock making stupid plays like faking a kneel down in the endzone and getting tackled on the two yard line. He's also more sure handed than Mason, who fumbled the first kickoff he returned in preseason. |

alexander was cheap with huge upside. This was a no-brainer provided he is in shape.

Re: Redskins Sign Shaun Alexander (Merge) *updated*
Rock is a solid return man. If anyone has a serious beef with him in that area, sorry you're just wrong.
The signing of Alexander does not mean that Rock is not a quality backup RB. It simply means they don't want to risk losing Rock to injury and cost us two positions in the process. With Betts out, the need is there for another RB, simple as that. Alexander is a former league MVP and Zorn is familiar and comfortable with him. Mason is an unproven guy sitting on a practice squad. I fail to see what's so impressive about a guy who tore it up in August against scrubs. |
