Thanks GMScud! Good read. Someone's going to get a great football player. I hope it's us. Now excuse me while I wipe the drool from my chin.

Thanks GMScud. I think the article explains a lot. The following is from the article (one AFC Scout).

“As for the stuff about him being on the ground, he does get a little overextended on some blocks. But sometimes he’s on the ground because he’s busting his ass trying to make a play.”

I would still be worried about his technique, because with his technique (that he first learned in high school), he does overextend and gets off-balance. It's probably still a risk, in the minds of scouts as far as how effective his technique will be in the nfl. To some, unger may be a safer pick at Center.

Interesting. I'd be happy w/ Oher, though I know there were earlier character (?) concerns, but honestly never thought it was realistic for him to fall to us. Could be a great draft this way.

If we do get Oher or A. Smith in the first I hope to hell we take Sidbury in the 3rd round. Local kid and just a marvel... i think the only thing that kept his draft stock from sky rocketing is that he comes from small ball... could be all for the best if can get him in the 3rd

Oher's father was not involved in his upbringing (and was murdered when he was a junior in high school), and his mother was addicted to crack cocaine. As a result, he received little constructive attention during his formative years. He repeated both first grade and second grade, and attended eleven different schools during his first nine years as a student. He also alternated between time spent in various foster homes and periods with no fixed address until he was sixteen years old.[1]
That year, Oher applied for admission to a private school, Briarcrest Christian School, at the instigation of acquaintance Tony Henderson, with whom he was staying temporarily. Henderson was sending his son to the school in order to fulfill the dying wish of the boy's grandmother, and he decided that Oher might as well come along. Although the school's football coach was interested in Oher, school administrators did not feel that he was capable of handling the school's academic workload due to his scant educational background; however, he was admitted after he attempted to qualify for admission through a home-study program that removed him from the public education system.[1]
A white couple with a daughter at the school, Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, allowed Oher to move in with them and began taking care of his needs after becoming familiar with his difficult personal circumstances. They also connected him with a tutor, who worked with him for twenty hours a week, eventually bringing his low-D performance up to a 2.05 grade point average. A series of internet-based courses from Brigham Young University served as replacements for poor marks earned earlier in his academic career, enabling him to become eligible to play football in college.[1]

I have not heard one thing about his character being a problem. Oher was taken in by a Christian family and has been growing as a man more and more as time goes on. I think he has the right attitude to be successful with this team.

Wow... Oher has seen the rough side of life no doubt. From that story i think the kid deserves a ton of credit and all the luck in the world.

IF we're keeping the 13th, then I'd say draft Maualuga if he's available. He's a football player and I think he'll play up to the standards of a perennial all-pro. If he's not there, I'd take an OT but I'd prefer to trade back and stockpile additional picks and maybe snag Mack.

Can't imagine Mack would fall past No. 22, so any trade down situation would have to be ahead of that spot.

The only team that has incentive to trade up is Tampa Bay at No. 19, but that's a team that already gave away a 2nd round pick in this draft for KWII and is trying to rebuild the defense.

Still, if they fall in love with Stafford, I think they'll seriously start loading up by the time he reaches No. 10 or 11 or so. We could shake them down for a 3rd and a 6th potentially for those 6 spots. Problem is, we'd have competition from Buffalo, who absolutely has incentive to trade down, and Green Bay and San Francisco as well. All those teams want to move down, but the Bucs might not have the ammo to get to those spots.

Which could be good for us, potentially.

I hope you're right. Is Tampa still as much in love with any QB they don't have as they were when Gruden was there?

Well he's been compared to Matt Birk by some scouts if that's any consolation.

Re: I give you the first 12 picks, Give me your Redskins draft pick!

Mack measured in at 6'4-1/4" and 307 pounds, measurements that NFL scouts drool over for a center with any sort of athleticism. He ran a 5.17 and 5.23 in the 40-yard dash, had a 28-1/2" vertical, an 8'10" broad jump, 4.75 short shuttle, 7.31 cone drill, and benched 225 pounds 20 times.

not insane numbers, but very solid.

I think the Redskins have to look at him this way: that he's the fourth or fifth best lineman in the draft (depending on what we think of Oher/Smith). If we treat him any other way, we're probably missing the bottom line.

Of course, don't take the fifth best OLman if you can get the third.
