you have a point 53, but to be analogous 6.5 would be about accurate, since they built to 90 & the min. is 85.'

JJ sounds convinced that it really isn't an issue for real game scenarios. You have to wonder, like some have said here, if the possibility of drama & more press, is fun for him.

I don't know if FedEx is that impressive per say. I think massive describes it especially considering that to my knowledge the only stadium in America thats bigger is Happy Valley. However at the end of the day it's a big, traditional square bowl with a coat of Redskin colors.

Also I think that FedEx is really JKC's palace.

Edit: Never mind FedEx is the 18th largest stadium in the world and 10th in the US. Still it's definitely the biggest in the NFL so horray.

My guess would be that he's eating this up. There really isn't any other reason to talk about the Cowgirls.

Now now. The impoverished Jones had a budget of only $1.2 billion to work with. You can't expect him to get it right.

This screen is more of a distraction to everyone than a benefit.

The fans above the second level will have it right in their faces. It will be tough to concentrate on watching the field with that taking up so much of your peripheral vision. I'm sure it will distract some players from time to time as well, out of its sheer size and brightness.

I just pray it doesn't ever fall. It has happened three times in arenas with much smaller screens.

*In 1988, a 20-ton, $1.2 million center-hung scoreboard at the new Charlotte Coliseum crashed to the floor of the arena, doing $55,000 worth of damage to the basketball court.

*In 1996, the eight-sided, center-hung Sony JumboTron at Marine Midland (now HSBC) Arena fell to the ice while it was being remotely moved minutes after players ended practice and hours before a game between the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins.

*In 1997, the 5-ton center-hung scoreboard at North Charleston Coliseum, home of the ECHL South Carolina Stingrays, fell, killing an arena worker.

We've already had one incident with a Jerry Jones facility this year, their practice tent. Let's hope there is not another, especially when our guys are there. If that thing goes during an NFL game, there will be a minimum of 29 guys right under it (teams plus refs), although it looks like it could hit people on the sidelines too.

This stadium is just ugly. It's more of a monument to Jerry Jones and his ego than it is about creating a great place to watch a football game. I've heard some people in Texas describe its appearance as an airplane hangar.

They should have known better than placing the screen there. Ray Guy once hit THIS screen at the Superdome:

If you look at the BACKUP PUNTER'S kick, it was still on the way up when it struck the screen. There are better punters in the NFL obviously, those with starting jobs, and they'll hit it too. This won't be a single freak occurrence.

Buster, I'm not a fan of modern architecture at all, but from the pictures I've seen it looks kinda cool. Definitely better looking from the outside than texas stadium, which looks like one huge chunk of concrete w/a hole in it.

good point about the superdome, they mentioned that on fox the other night that Madden reminded them of Ray Guy hitting the scoreboard.

One thing I noticed these days is that domes are now incorporating windows in the end zones. I think part of the reason the older domes were so depressing was because they looked like one giant basement. If you look at Ford Field, Lucas Oil Stadium, University of Phoenix Stadium, and now the new Cowboys stadium you'll see that they're all designed to let outside light in from the sides. Now that I think about it I wish that basketball and hockey arenas would incorporate this.

Buster, I pray that those screens fall when no one is around. I don't want anyone hurt but I do want the Cowboys to be further embarrassed.

The key word there though is smaller screens (ie screens where the teams were probably doing just enough to keep them in their place). This screen is a state of the art type deal and more importantly it's Jerry's baby. I'm pretty sure he's gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep that screen in it's place. Think about how you treat your own HDTV at home and then multiply that by a couple million dollars.

Lechler plays there on Thanksgiving day. He might actually knock the thing out.

Re: Problem w/ Cowboys giant screen.

It sounds like if they raise it, like they will for U2, then they have to disconnect it. JJ has said that they will raise it to accomodate U2's stage, and charge U2 2Million dollars, but then lower it again for games. It's not as simple as pressing a button, because once raised the screen does not work. Certainly seems fixable, but one other comment I found interesting was that if it is raised, then JJ's view of it is skewed. I don't know if that is true, but that would be the kicker, if everytime he sat in his perch he was reminded of the punt fiasco.

Love it!

Try $40M.

I'm no structural engineer, but I imagine that thing is hooked up to a pretty elaborate pulley system. I'm sure it's not dangling like a Christmas ornament (even though that's what it is to Jerrah).
