Maybe it's no more than an experienced advisor to guide Zorn in the transition to a SB caliber HC.
That could be the case. Good point.

I dont think unemployed coaches (like holmgren) would feel comfortable talking about taking over another HC's job while that HC (JZ) is still employed with the team.

Heard an analyst say that if the skins really want to get one of the big coaches for next season they will have to be one of the first teams approaching the big 3 (holmgren, cowher, shannahan). Which means they shouldn't let the decision to fire JZ linger into the offseason.

obviously we are speculating here but imo all signs point to JZ being fired in a few weeks, with sherm taking on the playcalling duties and blache being the HC. this was not a possibility before the hiring of sherm since blache has never called plays. the DS probably wanted to fire zorn after the lions game, vinny and others told him they dont have anyone to call plays, the DS says find a guy who can so when i get my next gut instinct to fire JZ i can.

if zorn gets fired in the next few weeks, its just going to be another typical DS move . . . go i f'in hate what our franchise has turned into.

The Examiner's John Keim caught up with a current NFL GM, who said this:

"My gut feeling is that they will let him come in and be here two to three weeks and if things don't get better, he now knows the offense and the talent and he becomes the playcaller and they name Blache the head coach -- if things don't change."

Or Jason La Canfora, who went on the NFL Network and said this:

"Talking to some people there at Redskins Park, there's no denying that yesterday they had no one on staff who was capable of running that offense on an interim basis if Jim Zorn were to be relieved of his duties mid-season. Now they do. Lewis can be there, study with them, be in the meeting rooms, all that stuff. And if they make a move, that's someone who has called plays and has been a coordinator at the NFL level in the West Coast system."

go skins i suppose . . .

I don't see a mid season firing as 'another typical DS move' at all. Let's assume we're 3-4 at the break (losing to Carolina and Philly, beating KC) and still struggling to score. That would be 5-10 over the past 15 games and no positive signs that we're improving. What is accomplished, other than further infuriating your fan base, by letting Zorn coach out the string? He'd obviously be a lame duck and if he's not improving, why not make a change? Now if we're 4-3 and making strides offensively, he will probably play out the season and see what happens.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

WTF...Most of you guys sound retarded this is soooo dumb, picture yourself working somewhere trying to work out the kinks on a new job and your boss hires an older consultant to come "help you out" sure....handwriting is on the wall fellas/gals...

If it is gonna fail let it fail on its own and blow it up at the end of the year don't put a freaking bandaid on at early season, who the hell does this Al Davis?? add to the list Dan Snyder, I know he is the biggest fan, but dam dude has an ego that only compares to no one this is stupid....

Either win now or let it blow the hell up just stop screwing with it in the middle of the freaking season, this does no one any good!!!!!!

But, i digress.

I think Sherman Lewis could help, i hope that the 1st 15 plays and the RZ goal-yo-goal play primary are his main areas of fous.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

the rumors focusing on Jim Zorn's job security (ESPN's Adam Schefter said Sunday it was not a matter of if Zorn would be fired, but when)? At the very least, would it really hurt to give Zorn the dreaded vote of confidence with a statement that says "this man is my coach for the rest of the season, and hopefully longer," even if you probably don't mean it.

Charley Casserly, the Redskins' former general manager, said during an appearance Tuesday on Comcast SportsNet's "Washington Post Live," that the move did not bode well for Zorn's future, calling the addition of Lewis a "kiss of death."

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

I just don't see this as the end of Zorn. Despite appearances, we have had no comment from Snyder one way or the other. Casserly, Shefter, etc. are just guessing AND guessing based on their perception of Snyder as a impatient fantasy type owner. To me, to see this as anything more than the owner trying to help out the coach is buying into the talking heads whom we so regularly bash.

I am adopting a wait and see attitude and not assuming the move means anything other than an attempt by the FO to provide Zorn more resources to do his job well.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

Zorn hopefully will improve with an offensive consultant, but what does that mean that Sherman Smith has been doing? I agree Zorn has too much on his plate, but he's managing a struggling 2-2 record still... Zorn is not a bad guy or necessarily bad coach. Players like him, people like him. He is inexperienced as a play caller, OC, HC. Even if Holmgren comes to DC (and I'd still rather have Shanahan) I would think Jim Zorn would still have a job. We need a GM. Things that bother me about Holmgren are facts such as Hasselbeck being his QB. To blame Zorn is too easy at this point. Danny needs to let someone with football knowledge run this team as a GM. No more Cerrato and no more Snyder rich kid in a candy store crap. Deion and Bruce don't get ya Superbowls. It's people like Art Monk, Darrell Green, Clint Didier, Doug Williams, John Riggins, Geris White, Gary Clark, Virgil Seay, etc, etc, etc.

Good post, and as you say the Dan needs to grow up on the quick trigger....
Maybe this is an indication of that coming to fruition? I cannot imagine that the entire staff will remain intact or that it should as the team obviously is.....challenged in all area's. Perhaps changing the structure to some degree, and adding some support will serve better than blowing it up?

How does having Hasselback as his QB bother you? Deion, a two-time SB winner, and Bruce Smith who has been to four himself was 9 years ago. We can't let that go?

As for guys like Art Monk, Darrell Green, Clint Didier etc. getting us Superbowls. Before they won a Superbowl they were Santana Moss, Carlos Rogers, Chris Cooley. I guess my point is I don't understand what your point is to ramble off those names from the past.

Its called cherry picking to try and make a point we could also make a list of palyers we had back then that where a bust but I guess that would not fit nice into whatever point he was trying to make. The nice thing about a bust back then there was no cap so you could just get rid of a player without worring about cap space.

I just read the text from Cerrato words via press conference yesterday. Either he's socially inept or I hate him.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

Business people often bring in consultants. Snyder is a businessman and Vinny has been involved in bringing in consultants before, they did it in SF while Vinny was there. Lewis is an expert on the WCO and nobody else on Zorns staff is as far as I know. Gibbs didn't lose his job when they brought Saunders in. I don't think there is any subtraction in this addition, at least not for Zorn, unless we fail to progress on offense.

Re: Redskins hire offensive consultant

I'm glad to see that the front office is taking steps to help improve the offense by bringing in a coach like Sherman Lewis with his west coast back ground. This move means we need help to get the offense more production which could help both Zorn and our young WR corp. I respect Zorn more for being open to this idea to bring in a coach with so much experience that it can only improve our team. Lets hope Lewis can design some plays to get our WR open.
