Re: Reputation of Sherman Lewis- our new play caller
I think that is a puff piece. We would be kidding ourselves to buy into it and actually believe that this guy is going to turn things around. I'm sorry, but I am not exactly going to be optimistic until I see something to be optimistic about. Words and puff pieces aren't going to do it for me any more.
Deep down inside I want this to be the fix, but I am not going to get my hopes up...again. |

Right now my long-term fandom is trumping my short-term fandom. With this season already lost (I don't care that there are 10 games left, we're done), I pretty much hope we fall completely on our face is downright ugly fashion. It hurts me to say such a thing. I think it's going to take the kind epic fail that we're in store for to open Danny's eyes. I hope it's already happening. I don't see how we can't possibly have sweeping organizational changes if we end up something like 3-13 or 4-12 (then again, with that little jerk running the teams, nothing surprises me anymore). We're already a punch line, and this year, it's only going to get worse.

Re: Reputation of Sherman Lewis- our new play caller
I think it's unfortunate it's come to this for Lewis. One of the most respected assistant coaches of the 1990s and now he's simply being dismissed as a bingo caller. He, in my opinion, gave too much to both college and pro football to get that treatment. I hope he proves a lot of people wrong this Monday.

Also let's not forget, despite a shining resume as a non-playcalling assistant, his record when actually dialing up the plays is paltry at best. Another head-scratcher by our front office.

Re: Reputation of Sherman Lewis- our new play caller
Doc Walker said he spoke to Snyder this morning for a little while. The usual stuff, very disappointed for the fans, knows it's on him ultimately. But the really interesting part was he basically said Snyder was asking Doc about Lewis, seems this really was all Cerrato and Snyder didn't have anything to do with it.

I think DS cleans house after the season.. but ill give the guy a chance and see how it goes. we couldnt score vs one of the worst defense in the league so i guess he couldnt do any worse.

Re: Reputation of Sherman Lewis- our new play caller
amen to that. Another interesting thing I just read - Its been tweeted (how is that even a word in our vocabulary?) that Sherm Lewis will call plays directly into Campbells headset. So, basically, Zorn has been removed entirely from the equation.
Now, i know on the majority of NFL teams, the offensive coordinator (or someone other than the head coach), calls the plays. (I think only about 8-10 head coachs call plays, according to some pre-game graphic I saw this past weekend). Does anyone know how these teams (especially the successful ones) handle the transmission of the playcall to the QB? Obviously, if the play goes through the HC, it delays the play getting to the QB. On the flip side, i imagine most HC's dont want to be bystanders. One positive of having someone up in the booth call plays is that they have a better view of the field and a better perspective on what opposing defense are doing. Thats not to say I like someone from the outside being brought in like this, but I think the concept is a sound one.

Re: Reputation of Sherman Lewis- our new play caller
A couple of comments after practice that are rather telling.
Zorn-“I need to have composure,” Zorn said. “I need to understand what the reality of the situation is, and I think our players expect me to rise up. We expect them to play under adverse conditions. We expect them to risk it all. … I’m conscious of what’s going on. I’m not naive about what’s going on, and yet I have to just hold back on any feelings and make the decisions.” That says to me that he knows he's on the way out but is going to ride it out the best he can. Class act, even if he's not a very good coach. Jason Campbell-"There'll probably be a couple of plays I have in my head," the Washington Redskins quarterback said, "just in case if some reason it doesn't get in on time." Monday's game is going to be a must see for many reasons.

I could honestly see myself shutting this one off by halftime and playing Madden the rest of the night. It's going to be downright embarrassing.

Re: Reputation of Sherman Lewis- our new play caller
According to the powers that be, what they have been witnessing for the last fourteen games has been downright disgusting. Monday night will begin a new chapter, and usher in new ways to be even more incompetent.
