Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
We really have so many holes right now we cant go wrong. If we take the best player available at any position he will automatically become a starter. Trading down would not be a bad idea to recoup some of the bigs we continually lose. Trade Haynesworth and McNabb for whatever we can get too to have even more picks.

Allen does the money/contracts while he lets the HC draw up the draft board, etc. Gruden did the real picking in Tampa, and he wasn't even in the FO per se. The contracts we gave out this offseason are indeed much shrewder and lets us off the hook easily if they stunk it up. No Brandon Lloyd silliness, which was a trademark of the past regime. Besides, even if we want to appeal to history and interpret history such that Allen was calling the shots in Tampa in terms of personnel, history says that Allen keeps picks as well, since Tampa almost always had a full load of them. Proof: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft History, Stats and more on databaseFootball.com Shanahan also held onto his picks often, but he does seem to do some craftier wheeling and dealing along with it. So, in conclusion, just throwing away draft picks willy-nilly seems out of character for either Shanahan or Allen, for the most part. Neither of them made trades for an old vet starting QB either. So I believe that Shanahan wanted a QB, and he deemed McNabb the best fit. Why? Because I doubt Shanahan would have accepted this job without having significant input in personnel, since I'm sure that he himself believes that he can evaluate talent well enough to pick the players he wants. He had 9 years of said experience before we hired him. He thought McNabb had what he wanted out of a QB: big arm, mobility to extend plays, and was a gamer. Afterwards, of course, buyers' remorse surely set in and he was dissatisfied with McNabb. Not only that, some of the players brought seem to be perfect Shanahan "fits". Grossman, Torain, Beck, Trent Williams, Armstrong, Lichtensteiger all easily bear the stamp of "Shanahan approved" players because they fit what he wants on offense. Getting rid of Jason Campbell was also Shanahan-driven since he himself said he was going to watch every snap of his career to determine if JC had what he wanted. If he had that much power to get rid of JC, pick up Grossman, pick up Beck, why the hell is he suddenly doesn't have any power with regards to McNabb? We also went to a 3-4 because Shanahan believed that it was the better scheme for us long term. He was the one who talked with Haslett when they were both out of the NFL. We grabbed hopeful candidates that would help make it work, such as Carriker and Kemo. Once again, it's either Allen being very accommodating or Shanahan is actually calling [most of] the shots.

We need to draft players from Stanford's OL.

If I had my choice I would definitely go qb with the first pick. I think Luck, Mallet, Newton, Gabbert. and Locker will be successful at the next. I would draft either one if they fell to us at 10.

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
History would indicate that some of them will be busts. The only year in recent memory when even the first 3 QBs drafted were successful was 2004 with Eli, Rivers, and Big Ben. Drafting top QB's is less than a 50-50 proposition, even at the very top of the draft.

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Jake locker won't be a 1st round pick IMO, he had a horrendous year and an even worse bowl game.
Luck is a Bradford type QB, you just can't pass him up even if NE had the 1st pick. Newton has only played 1 year so idk about him, great athlete but can he pass? Gabbert is another wildcard, is he really worth a top 10 pick? I'd say no Mallett is a big guy that has a monster arm, some compare him to Flacco, I'd take him at 10 over the other qbs. I still say we draft BPA which could be Blackmon, Green, Pouncey etc

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
I know that I am sounding like a homer but drafting for BPA in the early rounds and picking up Taylor late could make this team very dangerous beyond 2012.
Tyrod Taylor will have a better career than Vick. |

Re: Skins have 10th overall selection. Who do we pick?
Well since it's that time again.. Here's my take on what we should do in the draft.
(Realistic options) R1, #10) Nick Fairley DT/DE: I've been guilty of riding the Auburn bandwagon and Nick Fairley is just a beast. He'd be PERFECT as a 3-4 DE. AJ Green WR: The most dominant receiver in College, bar none. Von Miller OLB: I've only seen highlights, but looks to be a great pass rusher/tackling machine. Blaine Gabbert QB: Forget the Jake Locker/Cam Newton/Ryan Mallett stuff.. Only Blaine Gabbert makes any sense at #10. R2, #9) Jeremy Beal OLB: VERY good 2nd round talent, and the best part... He wins! Stefen Wisniewski C/G: I think he would solidify our offensive line along side Silverback. I think he's probably the best guy to step right into center. Corey Liuget DT: If he does end up declaring for the draft, this guy would be a good second round option if Fairley doesn't work out in the first round. Jake Locker QB: I hate to do this.. but Shanahan might just think he'll be able to work some magic with all the "intangibles" and the "raw talent", but don't be fooled... R5, #13 and #28) Kelvin Sheppard ILB: Great leader, tackling machine.. Probably won't be available.. but it's possible. Josh Bynes ILB: Winner, very good in the box, great against the run.. Bad in coverage (think McIntosh), and terrible hands. Vincent Brown WR: Speed + Hands + Pretty good size. We need to take a risk on a guy like this. Tejay Johnson FS: One of the better defensive players on TCU. Good leader, fast, big, lacks top end football IQ, good depth player. Brooks Reed OLB: Very fast and explosive on the rush, not a very good cover guy. *Note I'm a college football freak and would love to give my input on certain players. |
