You bring up a good point about shanahan not benching him. I agree. Why didn't he. My thinking was that Shanahan wanted his most experienced corners out there, because he doesn't want Brandyn Thompson covering Welker or someone like that. Shanahan really wanted to win that game more than any yesterday. I say if hall did that against, Carolina, or New York, he's benched.
NFL Videos: Gronkowski refuses to go down

See for yourselves what hall was doing on the play. He just stands there. I mean he doesn't even like stand there agressivly like he wants to even lunge or push him, he just stands there. I also want to smackdown Reed Doughty on that play, for poor tackling. He needs to go as well, not just for this play but for his abuse he gets from opposing teams targeting him all day.
The last thing that I will say about this issue is that even his biggest critics will admit that Hall always gives it all on the field. And no he doesn't stand there, if you see the video both Hall and Welker were running towards the play and stop right when it appears that Gronkowski was out of bounds. I don't think anyone realized Gronkowski had not stepped out of bounds, even Welker. Once again, I think people are completely blowing this out of proportion and it shows people like to complaining for the sake of complaining.

As I said, I'm not a Hall apologist and he did his share of mistakes (as did a lot of people) on Sunday the deserves plenty of criticism. But please don't come to me with this bullsh*t argument and expect not to get called out on it.

I'm not sure if it's players or coaches who appoint the team captains, but it's a total embarrassment that Trent Williams and D-Hall both have the "C" patch on the front of their jerseys.
This to me, is the Mike Shanahan era in Washington. The talent is not better and the culture is not different. Players like Andre Carter don't fit what we are trying to do, players like Rocky McIntosh and DeAngelo Hall do fit.

And that's just the defensive side of things. To me, the entire resume for Mike and Kyle having any clue what they are doing falls within the last three or four weeks during a lost season. After the Week 10 game against Miami, you would have been hard pressed to find any evidence that we knew how to build anything. I think there is some now that we've produced 20+ points in four straight weeks. But the full season numbers are still really awful.

And you hit the nail in the head. THIS is the bigger issue. What happened to Shanahan the disciplinarian? Is he not getting on these guys b/c they haven't bruised his ego like McNabb and Haynesworth did? Where is the change of culture? Hell even sitting Hall for one or two series would have been something.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Patriots)

It was very nice to see us so competitive against the Pats. While a win is obviously preferable, knowing that Pats fans were sweating bullets is a happy thing. That's all the smack I've got.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Patriots)

Smack Down:

Rex Grossman: Sorry, but Rex Grossman does deserve some smack down. His pocket presence is down right awful - and that resulted in a New England defensive TD. I love the fact that he can come back from an awful play and make a great play - he was making some awesome plays against the Patriots - but those bad plays often tend to be really, really bad plays.

Ryan Kerrigan: Easily my favorite Redskins player right now (but Roy Helu is moving up pretty darn quickly) but come on man, RK you have GOT to make that tackle! That was just plain embarrassing. Then again, it may not be completely his fault. I think he's playing almost every single snap, and he just appeared to be spent.

Brian Orakpo: Did you play today?

DeAngelo Hall: Come on man - your actions on the field makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever. Why did you even think it was a great idea to pick up the ref's flag and throw it? If you want to throw flags that much, retire and become an official. Otherwise, you're hurting our team!

But as for studs:

Brandon Banks: For throwing like a girl (I'm just teasing ya) but making a great play to Santana Moss. I'd love to see more stuff like this from the Redskins.

To our rookies on the offensive line: A little shaky at first, but a real solid day after that. Sure, the defense of the Patriots is a bit soft, but I thought you guys stepped up and played pretty solid - especially in place of J. Brown and T. Williams not playing.

Roy Helu: WOW! Just, WOW!!!

The last thing I'm going to say on this is I was just watching C'Mon Man on MNF, and guess who made it and on what play...DHall, and not on the flag throwing play, on the Not Tackling Gronkowski play. You seem to be the only person who is defending this guy...Are you DHall? So no, my argument isn't BS, its perfectly acceptable considering there are many people in my boat towards him sucking on that play than you making excuses that "Oh he thought he was going out of bounds." Look at ESPN's replay, Gronkowski was a good couple of yards away from the sideline with DHall just standing there. Get you eyes checked man, I had to look again after you said he "looked like he wasn't going to be pushed out of bounds and Dhall didn't want to get a PF for late hit out of bounds"

You think what you want to think, I have criticized Hall a lot (hell, I think he should've been benched for the flag incident), I just think people are blowing this out of proportion. Meanwhile the guys that completely whiffed on the play, Gomes and Doughty, are not even being discussed.

So keep with your whining complaints, I mean after all it seems that every year you find yourself rooting against the Redskins. No wonder every now and then I call you a Cowboys fan. Shouldn't you be posting another Suck for Luck thread? But whatever, I guess you must be upset b/c your team choked against the Giants yesterday.

I support Ruhskin's argument. I think in today's league, there are a lot of defensive players who stop and think twice about hitting a guy they think is going down, because they know if they hit them after they're down or out of bounds that's an automatic 15 yard penalty. Gronk had two guys on his back, is it reasonable to expect two pro football players to be able to take one guy down? Absolutely. And using "c'mon man" as evidence of what not to do is weak shit. I would never use some dumb talking head's opinion to back up any argument of mine, unless I was talking about what idiot talking heads think.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Patriots)

It seems to me that the officials are over protecting the quarterback during this era. I remember way back in the days, when the QB was hit, there was nothing wrong with it. Now, if a QB is even knocked down when the defender barely touches him, then it's a personal foul and 15 yards are marched off. Even when a QB scrambles and slides to the turf, if a defender delivers a hit while the QB is in the process of sliding, then it's results in a personal foul- much like Fletcher's hit on Brady yesterday.

Brady wasn't even down when Fletcher hit him, yet the refs called a personal foul.

It's kind of like breaking up a fight. You see someone in your entourage getting their butt whipped and somebody running to their rescue. You're now thinking, "oh, they got it". Next thing you know, both guys are knocked the **** out.

Reminds me of that guy a season or two ago, that kept saying "Look at the video!!! The proof is in the video!!!" in regards to Jason Campbell's QB play. LOL.

What was that guy's name? I can't remember it...I do remember him getting banned for just going nuts with his argument. LOL.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Patriots)

Even Mike Shanahan is disappointed in Hall:

Mike Shanahan disappointed with DeAngelo Hall
By Mike Jones

Washington Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan expressed disappointment in cornerback and defensive captain DeAngelo Hall for costing the team with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the Patriots and for quitting on a play that led to a long New England gain.

Hall, an eight-year veteran, racked up 20 yards in penalties on one third-quarter play, helping fuel a Patriots scoring drive that resulted in them taking a 27-20 lead.

Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker (83), right, drags Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall (23) into the end zone on the game-winning touchdown catch Sunday.(John McDonnell/The Washington Post)Hall initially was called for a five-yard defensive holding as he tried to cover Wes Welker, and unhappy with the penalty, Hall walked over to the flag, picked it up and chucked it back up the field at nobody in particular. Four referees immediately threw their flags at Hall. The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty earned the Patriots another 15 yards.

The ball was placed on the Washington 46-yard line, and five plays later, Tom Brady completed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski.
