Re: Is excitement enough in 2012?
I was a ten win guy last year and with the way the team started the seaon I thought it was possible. The injuries along the oline killed us early. Then with Trent and Davis getting suspended and all really killed the team. This team is interesting this year, and I honestly don't want to make any predictions. For now excitement is enough but come talk to me in November if we are 5-6, and still it would depend on how the team is playing.
As far as the RG III and Snyder convo at the end of the year well I don't want to speculate on that. If you listen to what the new qb has been saying in the media since we made the trade the. I would assume that if that conversation happened Griffin would at least want two years with the guy. I got a question for you all: Would you extend Shanny's contract if we have an 8-8 or winning season this year knowing that the pay off could be just around the corner? For the record I would.

Re: Is excitement enough in 2012?
It could be a prophetic question. I think if we're 8-8, given the competition in the division, Mike should get another year. Anything less than .500 and some dissection is necessary. Did poor play-calling put too much pressure on RGIII? Did Garcon make a significant contribution?
And if it's a four win season or worse, Mike and his entourage go immediately, on principle alone. With a legit franchise QB talent finally in the house if you can't motivate this level of talent to be competitive and at least earn five wins you have no business coaching (anymore).

Re: Is excitement enough in 2012?
we could even have a losing record next year and i'd be inclined to keep shanny around. i think he has us headed in the right direction right now. from what this team was 3 years ago to today is mind blowing. finally someone has come in and just blown everything up which is what needed to happen. this team has been a patch and repair mentality for too long and couldn't ever get to the next level. now shanny has gotten rid of all the over the hill over paid and under acheiving players and has gone on a youth movement. he is trying to build this team through the draft and that doesn't happen over night. after his draft last year and the progress this team made, yes we made progress last year, he has earned his right to be here imo. the absolute worst thing this team could do is fire shanny within the next two years. we really need consistancy to continue to keep building a strong core. i haven't been this amped for a season to start in a long time and i don't even think we will finish 8-8. but i would take another losing record and see progress anyday of the week, i'm tired of the quick flash in the pans i want to win and keep winning. HTTR!

Re: Is excitement enough in 2012?
In the three years Shanny has been here we have drafted more players than any other team. This year and the next should show us of if this will work. My thought is if they give us a .500 club this year with a rookie qb then we are ahead of the curve and as we move forward we should begin to see great things from our team, and should ensure the staff who brought us back will be around for a while to get us where we all want to go.

Hell, I would be willing to extend the contract and keep the Shanahans on board if they went 6-10 if RGIII was firmly on board and the offense was playing like the Panther's last eason with the introduction of Cam. SHOW ME you are improving and are on the way to becoming contenders, that the system is working and the team is all in, and yes, I would be more than willing to give them more time and keep the continuity, which we have been sorely lacking for more than two decades, going. |

I see us finishing 6-10, but I have hopes that we'll get two more wins and they'll be divisional wins (1-1 with each of our divisional rivals) since we are, on paper at least, more competitive this year against them. If that 6-10 sees a dramatic improvement from our offense with RGIII and the rest of the additions .... if the defense is at least as consistent as last year's ... if we are in the games even if we lose ... then yes, keep the Shanahans. We NEED consistency, we NEED continuity, and despite the offensive woes of the last three years the team is on the right track. |

Re: Is excitement enough in 2012?
My thoughts are that if Snyder didn't pursue Manning, and gave up a ton of pics for RGIII, then he has two years MINIMUM.. Again giving what we gave up to get him, Snyder must have agreed that this is going to be a two year, three year deal until we are legit playoff contenders. Now, with our D and possible offensive weapons we could compete for a division title next year.
Excitement may be enough for this year, but not beyond. Cam brought a ton of excitement to Carolina (living in Charlotte I can attest to it). But they are expecting the Panthers to compete for the division this year. There is no talk of still rebuilding. They expect them to win this year. i would venture that will be the same for us. |

Re: Is excitement enough in 2012?
I agree Goat, 8-8 should be the baseline. Our problem was at QB last year and we still had line trouble on both sides of the ball. Not saying our lines sucked, but they have much room for improvement. Just duringthis draft we have severely upgraded ourselves at QB, and I think we have at least one potential starter out of the three hogs we drafted, with one or two good backups. Not sure about the D line though, hopefully this will be dealt with before the season starts. A more agressive D will creat more turnovers and maybe give Robert a bit more of a break in his rookie season. If we only win 8 games with the significant upgrades we have made, something maybe amiss at Redskins Park. If we don't have a division crown by the end of the 2014 season Shanny needs to be shown the door.

No Hard Knocks for Redskins | ProFootballTalk
Looks like our coaching staff is continuing to make good decisions with this team. I like the fact they declined Hard Knocks.
