How do the SF fans feel about rooting for the San Jose 49ers? Did you know the 49ers stadium is 42 miles from San Fransisco? For us, that's the equivalent of putting the stadium in Stafford, or for your comparison, the distance from north Baltimore to DC. For me, as long as it's within reasonable distance of the beltway it's fine. Besides, if you live in one of those counties that are split on the Skins/Ravens I'd bet it comes down to what team your family likes. Also in regards to your last line, I am a proud VA person but have no qualms about rooting for a team that plays in MD. Because they represent DC, and parts of MD and VA. As long as they don't play in some other NFL team's backyard idc where the stadium is. One last point. Right now the only connection the Skins have to DC is the name. They practice in VA and play in MD. Imagine how those fans feel, especially knowing the Skins probably won't come back to DC because the bs over the name and the only suitable location being RFK. I'm sure DC residents would love to have the team back, but they know it won't happen because their elected leaders are playing the pc card. Finally, all this does for me is tell me that our gov. is putting his chips on the table. The time has come for MD to ante up if they are serious about keeping the team. If MD decides to let the Skins go all the MD residents have nobody to blame but the elected leaders. DS is going to take the Skins where they're wanted, and I'll be suprised if MD lets the Skins go without even trying.

2. No way this doesn't happen until 2027. McAuliffe is talking about announcements before the end of the year. Within 5 years we'll be playing somewhere new. DS will pay what he has to to get out of Fedex, or he'll make a deal with someone to get rid of it.

Don't forget that DC had its team well before NC and I'm from WV and lived 52 miles from DuPont Circle my parents took the Marc to work. So the Redskins have a fan base in WV, VA, MD, NC and even SC. That was a big market share in the 80s.
Back to the topic though, the stadium in northern VA, MD or the city all make sense

I would like it down by the National Harbor like the artist rendition earlier. But I don't really care where they move as much as what is the transportation to and from, and is it a well thought out stadium. I won't be buying season tickets, so it's won't matter a tremendous amount, although if they have outrageous PSL's I imagine that will kick the per game price up too.

This article from 2007 does say that the Skins are bound to the land lease until 2027, but even in it, they said that discussions on a new stadium could start around 10 years from the article (we are at 9 years now).
The land lease aside, I tend to think the question "What to do with FedEx" is really a moot point in terms of what the Redskins are going to do. Whenever they move out they will write off Fedex Field to the relics of history and not look back. My guess is they will make a big show of watching it implode, and say goodbye to that part of Redskins history. |

Idk how you can be a fan of something you find so offensive/racist/tasteless/irritating.

He also didn't get to be a billionaire by holding onto assets that are fully capitalized, and losing money each year. If the Redskins move, and his building stays on the land, he will need to lease the land (and pay taxes on the assets). On the other hand, if he strips it down and firesales the parts and pieces off as Redskins memorabilia and then blows the base structure up, he can avoid leasing the land, and be done with Maryland taxes (assuming he builds in VA).
There aren't really many options for an 80,000 seat stadium, especially open air. PG County sure isn't buying it. |
