We tend to on times here make statements with the power of hindsight.

We also tend to overhype players, coaches and the team in general.

Ala “top 5 defense”

I said this before the game yesterday I said the Chargers are a playoff team. I think now that offense could be a top 5 offense. We will look back and see 20 points is one of the lowest allowed to them all year.

A rookie head coach on the other side of the field too. Ron, JDR should be embarrassed

Totally agree about the offense, that's why I said this loss is on Turner and the offense.

The defense largely didn't look great, especially between the 20s, but holding that team to 20 points or less should result in a win.

Re: Week 1 - Post-game Thread

If you're looking at giving up 20 points as some sort of victory for the D I don't know what game you were watching. LA basically did what they wanted all game long (gave up 424 yards), they controlled the clock especially in the 4th quarter (36 min TOP for LA), and we gave up 14/19 on 3rd downs including that 3rd and 16. Just a terrible all around performance. This is not an elite defense, hell it's not even decent right now.

Re: Week 1 - Post-game Thread

I’m not actually mad at this game. A lot of little things caused us to lose. Ron gambling, Gibson fumbling, Scherffs penalty that knocked us out of FG range.

Overall the offense looked like night and day with Heinicke in. I liked that. My main issue isn’t with them.

But that defense especially the LB and CB play was fucking clown shoes. St-Juste was garbage so was Fuller. The only LB I saw making plays was Holcomb. That shit has gotta change.

To hang in and just lose by a couple scores with that terrible defense doesn’t make me mad. It does make me seriously concerned about the D though. And I get it Herbert one of a kind player blah blah but for everyone coming in saying this D is one of the best in the league, they got completely embarrassed.

It could have been worse point wise. Def not a victory for the defense…the 3rd downs were the back breaker.

What is this the Kirk Cousins curse? Ever since he left we've had a big time injury bug at QB.

I watched the same game as you I'm assuming. It is obvious the defensive game plan was to not give up the big play, and keep them out of the end zone. Largely it worked, with the exception of the opening drive. If Gibson doesn't fumble on the 3 yard line, who knows... I'm sorry, giving up only 20 points should have been good enough.

Here are their possessions:
Opening drive TD
Punt
Punt
FG
FG
Turnover
Turnover

TD (after WFT turnover on the 3)
End of game drive (terrible - but the D was gassed at this point)

Game 1 in the books and it's the same story as last year so far. The offense needs to get it going or it will be the same amount of wins too.

Anyway, the sky is not falling for me - but some of you might need to take cover.

Tyler looked much better, Fitz was always just a band aid. I literally could careless if he comes back or not.

Re: Week 1 - Post-game Thread

Fitz had way too small of a sample to really tell how he was going to look in this offense. TH to me was eh. He's ok but nothing spectacular. Hopefully with some first team reps he'll be better prepared for Thurs. Either way it's clear QB is going to be an issue again this year. Probably won't be long until Kyle Allen gets in there, and then probably some guy we'll sign off the street.
