I’m beginning to like the Mathis pick, from everything I’ve read is that he kept improving every year and could be dominant with coaching and hitting the weight room. https://www.pff.com/news/draft-top-f...l-draft-galina

Looking ahead at RB? You draft rookies when you need one. We didn't need one so the pick really doesn't make sense (Hey at least it wasn't a reach).

I don't disagree, just trying to understand what they are thinking, if in fact they are thinking

Seems like the notion that we reached by drafting Mathis in the 2nd round is overblown.

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread

With the 8th pick in the 4th round we selected (S) Percy Butler of Louisiana.

ESPN's pre draft analysis:

Butler is a lean safety with average length and outstanding timed speed. He closes quickly breaking on passes in front of him, and he's fluid enough to compete in man-to-man coverage. He looked good tracking, adjusting and high-pointing the ball at the combine. Butler comes in too hot and slips off tackles in run support. His release and speed make him an outstanding gunner on special teams. -- Steve Muench

The @Commanders got the best pure free safety in the nfl draft in Percy Butler. Dude has tremendous range in center field. He is very good in all areas of coverage. Let alone he has 3 rockets up his butt and can fly. He is not all coverage he is a very good tackler too

With the way the game is now you need backs, all of the backs should have pass catching skills and route running ability. They should be able to be split out and catch passes. The exception is Derek Henry, but give me Cam Akers, Edwards Helaire, Dalvin Cook, McCaffrey types.

I felt we were fine at RB and if you really needed a bruiser then get one in the 6th or 7th round or as a undrafted FA. Or sign a free agent on the cheap like you did w/ Barber. Very easy position to fill.

But if Robinson turns out to be Henry then forget everything I said.. lol.
The thing about RB is within the unit you need guys who fill roles. Now we have a thumper to get tough yards and run between the tackles. Doesn’t fumble either. I think it was a smart pick and now that unit is improved.

Most are saying he’s a great RB so maybe they found a diamond in the 3rd again… we’ll see

Yup. This is a good pick. He is a special team gunner and excels there.

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread

Ok I'm getting real concerned about who we have running the draft. Another trade where we gave up more value that we got back (We lost the 1st round trade as well) - (Silver lining - not as bad as the Vikings losing in trade value in the 1st so could be worse which was the worst I've seen in years, maybe ever).

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread

Depends on which trade chart you use, and the value is different in every draft. They seem to think there is value in the fifth round.

Don't get me wrong, I am not at all a fan of our front office, but draft pick value is relative so it is difficult to say one team won or lost, draft picks are worth what someone else will pay for them
