Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I completely agree -- one of my favorite players along with his best friend, Tress Way, who we also wisely extended.
I have a feeling that the team is waiting for Aiyuk to be released (and SF may want to hold out to see if they can get something for him, but no one will want to take on that contract and Lynch said he's played his last down as a 9er), and that they'll pounce when that happens. Prove it deal works for me, but what he did in SF is pretty concerning. It isn't as though that's a poorly run organization or that their coach is no good. But a 1 year prove it deal works for me.

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I think everyone in and around the NFL is waiting on Aiyuk being released and expecting him to come to DC. SF are hoping for a trade offer, but with that contract it ain't happening. Not that they care, they'll just hang on to him until it's most cost effective to them to release him and least benefit to the player, i.e. post draft or even June 1st. But for us that means we have to seriously consider WR in the draft, even at #7 (which for us is a mistake unless one of the top 2 slide). Lemon is not forecast in the top 10, let alone 7, so he'd be bad value and a mistake if someone like Downs is still there.
I'm not 100% comfortable with Aiyuk if we can swing it, but a 1 year prove it/behave yourself deal makes sense, not least because we don't know if he'll be 100% healthy. But I still think we have to draft a WR, probably rd 3, that we think can start. If nothing else we have to plan for a) JD5 contract coming up and b) Terry leaving. |

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
All depends whos available at 7. I personally dont want to take a WR. I am in the minority belief that we have a serviceable group already and could add a potential #2 in later rounds. But all we can do is trust peters & co and roll with them.. only option for the armchair gm lol

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
Aiyuk isn’t going to be released until
Summer. San Fran wants Aiyuk to get as little as possible in free agency. So, they will wait until after 6/1 or could even go to right before training camp; when teams will have spent most of their money. We better sign someone else, at least as a stopgap or draft a wr. Even if we sign Aiyuk when he’s free. |

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
1st June makes most sense for them else holding him longer means he gets roster money etc. according to what's know about the contract. And there comes a time when the bad press of holding him to ransom exceeds any benefit to them. Not sure what pressure the NFLPA can bring to bear, but I daresay they don't want this to be an easily repeatable scenario regardless of what Aiyuk did and didn't do.

Re: 2026 Commanders Free Agency
I would not sign Aiyuk at this point. Debo is still out there. You bring him back, along with what we have I think our WR room is just fine. Not an elite group but good enough.
I think Peters did a really nice job in FA. We don't know how these guys will play for us, but he has shored up some spots on defense that had to be addressed. Especially at LB and the pass rush. |
