Re: Lavar Gone
Well, I always liked Levar and wish the best for him. I just pray he does not land in the NFC East. ack!
I agree with CRT3. Mild Cancer is like Partial Amputation peace to all Hail Skins and hang on for this week's wacky ride!

Re: Lavar Gone
I differ from you guys. I'm happy as a pig in sh*t that he is gone. He plays like a chicken with his head cut off. When his knee is healthy and he has speed, he can play like a chicken with his head cut off and still make plays. His speed made up for his tendencies to be out of position.
But if you have balky knees, or if you're starting to age, your speed declines. And all of a sudden playing like the chicken with no head starts to become a liability. This move should have cleared quite a bit of cap room for us. I will do my best to figure out how much. We're much better off without him. Bravo Gibbs.

Re: Lavar Gone
Could this be a loop hole in getting under the cap for them to release him and sign him back to a contract that benefits him as well as the team? Not sure the #'s or the legality of that. This was done extremely quiet and if it was on bad terms someone would have spouted off and made this into a Laverneus Coles deal where Snyder told him to watch it on his plasma or restructure. Maybe for once though it is as simple as it sounds and the best for both sides.

Not sure if this was posted in here or not: Per ESPN, the moves saves us $4.2 million in cap room this year, as he forfeited $4.2 million in guarantees. That means the bonuses that were accelerated to the 2006 season were reduced by $4.2 million. Smart move for the Skins. That means before any restructures, we're $16 million over the cap. After Brunell, Portis, Thomas, Jansen, Wynn, and Springs restructured, we should be able to get under the cap just by releasing our bums (Bowen, Harris, Noble, etc).

Re: Lavar Gone
This sucks for several different reasons; a face of the franchise is gone, a guy who might be on the verge of maturing as a person & player, and the whole thing has just been bad karma. WE still don't know who's right or wrong in this, though all of us probably hate the postons.
But if things couldn't be mended w/Lavar here, I commend Gibbs for brokering the deal this past year to restructure his contract & mgmt. now for not letting this thing fester like the 6.5 bonus dispute did. This looks like another poor biz move by Lavar, kinda like him not giving the nfl permission to sell his jerseys a few years back. If he thinks he's gonna get big $ this year, he may be surprised. My early pick is Arizona, they have the $ and would probably love to have someone w/his star appeal. He wants to play in Pitt, & probably would for less $. Sadly, philly is in position to sign him to & he's a Pa. native. But, you never know, since teams can rescind the cuts they've made during the cba negotiations, maybe just maybe, Lavar will realize this was a mistake & Danny et al will welcome him back like the prodigal son, at a discounted rate of course. This is highly, highly unlikely, but its not unlikely that Lavar will realize this is not the best business move for him. |

Re: Lavar Gone
It's a good bet SD picks him up if they can afford it. He loved playing for Marty, and Marty loved him.

Re: Lavar Gone
I think Lavar and Williams have had issues the whole time that Williams has been with Washington. Williams will probably be here for a while and our next head coach. The team and Lavar know this and may have just thought it was time to part ways.

I was thinking at the end of the season & playoffs that he was finally willing to play team ball. Now, he might mature somewhere else at a much lower price. Oh well, maybe we should consider this the last tie to the era of big Danny signings. |

Re: Lavar Gone
I know people are upset over the fact that we lost "the face of the team", but I truly believe all of this CBA stuff was a blessing in disguise (provided it gets extended). It allowed us to put some pressure on people to make some moves saturating the free agency market, driving prices down. If the CBA gets extended we will actually have plenty of cap room to make some big acquisitions.
