Re: Who is Next?
I thought about the Pettibon/Williams comparison when I first heard about Gibbs' retirement. But, if Williams becomes the head coach, he will be walking into a very different situation. This team has a lot of talent and much of it is young. This team also may have a franchise QB. Pettibon inherited an aging team without a young, franchise QB at the helm.

Re: Who is Next?
They are saying on Sports Talk 980 that sources close to Vinny C say that it will be Cowher and he will be head coach and GM.

Re: Who is Next?
I've come around on Williams. I wanted him out at the end of the season after seeing almost 2 seasons of that Cover 2 getting picked apart, particularly in the 2nd half of games this year. However, from the Bears game on Williams is back to his old aggressive style and thrown out the Cover 2. Reading some of the info that the players on O & D want him to get the HC job shows that he has learned from Gibbs and is toning down the ego. I think with keeping our roster, coaching staff and O & D systems consistent, if we stay healthy next year we are in a good position.
If we keep GW as HC, our first immediate priority MUST be to get a GM. Cerrato will not get it done. No way to Cowher. Let him do his return tour somewhere else. If we don't hire GW as HC, we need to get the GM first and then go after Ron Rivera as HC.

Re: Who is Next?
Keep it the way it is...GW and Saunders runing the O and D with one the head coach. We don't need a big overhaul and a year of starting over cutting and adding players to fit a new way of doing thing for a new head coach. Both Al and GW are great coaches and know what do to and the players they have and need to win so let them do it!

Re: Who is Next?
List of prospects from John Clayton (sorry if it's already been posted--don't think I already saw it on this thread):
Jason Garrett Dallas Cowboys Offensive coordinator Garrett is a hot name because of his impact on the development of Tony Romo. He's a candidate in Baltimore and Atlanta, but the team that gets him might have to wait until after the Super Bowl if the Cowboys win two playoff games. Brian Billick Ex-Ravens coach Billick is a big name and he's a winner. He's still stunned by his firing from the Ravens, but his résumé is hard to ignore. Having worked in Baltimore, he knows the media market, which is an asset for the owner. Jim Caldwell Indianapolis Colts Assistant head coach/QB coach Caldwell brings the Tony Dungy effect to a franchise. He is calm and stoic. Peyton Manning speaks about his understated value to the offense. Caldwell is a lead candidate in Atlanta and is drawing strong consideration from the Ravens. Russ Grimm Arizona Cardinals Assistant head coach/offensive line coach Snyder scored points with Redskins fans by hiring the Redskins' Hall of Fame coach, so why not hire one of their greatest offensive linemen? Grimm was a candidate for jobs in Chicago and Pittsburgh and is clearly ready to take the step into head coaching. Mike Singletary San Francisco 49ers Assistant head coach/linebackers coach A Hall of Famer, Singletary is probably going to get an interview for the Falcons' job soon. He has been groomed the past couple seasons to be a head coach. Rex Ryan Baltimore Ravens Defensive coordinator Ravens players are campaigning for him to be head coach, and he reportedly had a great interview with Baltimore over the weekend. |

Re: Who is Next?
This is like when ST was shot. Post after post of pure speculation. We don't have a clue whats going to happen next although each of us has our on preferences.
My mind is running 100 mph on different scenarios ,but I'm gonna wait till the presser is over.Surely we will have some answers then. |

Re: Who is Next?
i wouldn't compare this to ST getting shot but yeah lets just see what happens.
If it is cowher i'll be happy. If GW moves up I'll be happy. We will get a good coach. But if we don't know by the press conference i'll definitely be going crazy. I'm going to try and chill till then. UGHGHGH. I guess if it is GW we will definitely know at 3. |

Re: Who is Next?
I do think that people confuse Bill Cowher with Dick Lebeau. Lebeau has been there a long time and I honestly don't know that it is Cowher's preferred system compared with Lebeau. Remember when Tomlin went to coach the steelers, there was debate about which d they would run, since Tomlin was a 4-3 guy and Lebeau was 3-4. I think the point may be moot anyway as the best defenses incorporate elements of both in their schemes.
