Let's see if Theo can get hot at the right time and stay hot, down the stretch! 20 games left. Washington Capitals - Recap: Atlanta @ Washington - 02/26/2009 GO CAPS!!!!!

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
Didn't get a chance to see the game tonight - was working late - but I see we dominated on the PP again. 3 goals. Nicely. I'm glad Neuvirth is playing well. I thought Varlamov was going to be the guy to replace Johnson, but I guess his knee isn't quite there. Either that or Neuvirth has gained the edge. Either way I'm thrilled about the future of the goalie position for the Caps!

HOW ABOUT THAT OT SHOT BY SEMIN!!!!! That was sick!!!! I missed the whole game except for the few minutes of OT, but I guess that was all I needed to see. What a team!

I will say, if we hadn't allowed that power play goal late in the 3rd it would have kept Boston from picking up a point. Our 3rd period penalties have been awful lately.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
As the trade deadline is nearing (March 4) SI.com predicts the CAPS move as follows: LETS MAKE A DEAL..?
Bonk & Zanon would both be solid additions to the club, for the playoffs and beyond! Hope it happens. NHL trade deadline deals that make sense - Allan Muir - SI.com Nashville sends Radek Bonk and Greg Zanon to Washington for Oskar Osala and Sami Lepisto The young Caps may still be a year or two away from the silverware, but they've played well enough to earn deadline reinforcements from George McPhee. Goaltending may be the most glaring need, but this deal addresses two other problem areas: lack of depth down the middle and the need for a physical presence on the blueline. Bonk is operating at 62 percent on the draw -- tops in the league -- and Zanon is a warrior who'll sacrifice his body to make a play. Both are UFA's this summer, so they won't impact next year's books. The Preds get a promising young forward in Osala -- currently third among AHL rookies with 19 goals -- and a small but talented puck-moving blueliner in Lepisto.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
OVY to miss HUGE GAME for the CAPS to get back on track after two home losses vs. the leafs tonight.
Tonight a must win for team confidence! They must rebound and get back on track. Theo get your job done, as well as the rest of the team step up! Washington Capitals - The Official Web Site Ovechkin to Miss Thursday's Game Left wing is day-to-day with injured foot Mike Vogel | WashingtonCaps.com Senior Writer Washington Capitals Mar 5, 2009, 6:11 PM EST Ovechkin Washington left wing Alex Ovechkin will miss tonight’s game between the Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ovechkin is day-to-day with a foot injury incurred at Wednesday’s practice at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Ovechkin, now in his fourth NHL season, missed two games earlier this season when he returned to his native Russia to visit with his ailing grandfather. Tonight’s game marks just the second game in the 23-year-old’s NHL career that he has missed because of injury. Ovechkin sat out a game between the Capitals and the Islanders on Long Island on Jan. 30, 2006. Washington lost that game against New York a bit more than three years ago, and it was 1-1 in the two games Ovechkin missed earlier this season. GO CAPS!!!!!

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
I think we made a mistake not helping out the blue line before the trade deadline. We're not gonna win too many defense-first hockey games. Plus our goaltending is average at best. I think we'll break out of this funk, but I'm worried about how we'll do in the playoffs.

Re: Washington Capitals 2008-2009 ongoing thread
Finally broke out of the funk tonight, beating Nashville 2-1 in OT. Caps also finally beat a team from the Western Conference.
Huge game at Philly on Thursday, they're creeping up on us in the points standings.
