Never mind. I see someone is refering him to Lanky Livingston which no one knows. Kinda stupid I guess. I kept thinking Laron Landry.

Granted it was a third stringer but that cornerback had zero chance on that ball.

If Mitchell is a contributor this year I think the Vinny haters may need to start crafting their apology...

Horton = The Predator
Kelly = NFL ready
Orakpo = Disgusting
Fred Davis = basically won the game the other night
Tryon = Isn't ready for prime time yet but will get significant time this year
Barnes = Rookie corner who bounced back and will get better
Thomas = Biggest disappointment but getting better and NFL talent
Rinehart = Contributing
Moore = Will get plenty of playing time in the cobra
Jackson = May get cut because of the D-line depth
Williams = Backup fullback
Mitchell = Mr. Mismatch
Pineapple Je5us = Mr. Pre-season 2008

Chase Daniel = Pontius Pilate
Jeremy Jarmon = Baby Dexter!

Granted, Brooks was a failure, Jackson is probably gone, and Henson and Glenn are going to have to fight for a spot but almost all of the players above are going to play important roles for our team. Two possibly 3 are in the starting 22.

I think that Vinny is an above average talent evaluator and I am pretty happy with the last two drafts so far. He cannot be blamed that a lot of draft picks were taken out of his hands.

Re: Clinton Portis Loves Marko Mitchell

We've done really well in the late rounds since 2006. Maybe better than anyone else in the league.

I do think late round drafting is mostly just 1) luck, and 2) stockpiling picks, but after getting NOTHING (except Cartwright) in there for the first six years of the Snyder era, it sure is nice to have found Monty, Golston, Doughty, Blades, Heyer, Moore, Horton, Marko Mitchell, and Edwin Williams in the late rounds.

I'd love for them to get MM on the field earlier this week. See what he can give us against a better secondary. I am not a kool-aid drinker but I am a little a-titter over MM. I can't get over how perfect that fade worked. Such a hard play to do and they made it look routine. I don't care who the CB was it takes a perfect throw/route/jump to even get to the point where you can maybe catch the ball. Hell the whole point of the play is that when done properly it is basically indefensible. And the fact that he is gettings raves from the DBs, not puff up stuff either, is nice.

How long have we wanted to see that fade as an option at the goal line. Fact is, whatever receiver can do that effectively should be on our roster. Between that threat, Cooley, and Portis/Sellers combo running, we should be able to dramatically improve our TD ability.

Aside from Orakpo & Horton -- all the rest haven't proven *anything* yet.

Horton was truly a good find - but I guess since we actually had draft picks recently -- you'll hit a good one every so often. Orakpo was easy since he fell into our laps (honestly, Oher would have been a good pick as well).

BUT it's back to the old argument -- consistently not drafting or signing FA O-linemen has been a perennial BAD move. I *still* shudder when we drafted a TE with *TWO* wide receivers. Sure, our O-line looks great right now, but what is the probability they will be healthy by November/December? I'd rather have good depth than hope we get lucky every year.

Anyway, I think we've had some good picks, but I'll stop short on "apologizing" to Vinny until (1) those picks actually make the team, (2) those picks actually do more than just become Warpath thread titles.

What exactly has Orakpo proved? Yea he's looked pretty decent thru two preseason games but big deal, its two early to tell with this years rookie class as of yet.

Re: Clinton Portis Loves Marko Mitchell

Anyone think this is interesting news.
The competition for the second WR spot is no longer a two man battle. The emergence of WR Marko Mitchell adds a third receiver to compete with WR Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas for the starting job.:Ala cbssportline training camp archive

Good. The more competition the better. You think DT is thinking he'd better step it up? Go for it Marko!

If it is true (and I'm not doubting you, just the reporter), that's huge. We've needed someone to draw attention from Tana and if Lanky is the guy, then terrific. Also, maybe Thomas and Kelly will feel a bit shamed and work that much harder.

Any time a rookie 7th round pick claims a starting job, that's huge.

I like what I saw of Marko Mitchell vs the Steelers, especially that push-off on his TD. Definitely a keeper.

Yeah, DT needs to take off that dunce cap and start wearing a real football helmet.
