Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
PHazard where did you hear it that DT only attended 55-60% of offseason workouts? I was under the impression everybody but Haynesworth showed up and put the work in, including DT. I didn't hear a single thing all offseason about DT only putting in the minimum hours and not taking it seriously.
I'd love to see DT on the field in all honesty, but if the coaching staff wants to trade him, well then it's their choice. I don't feel like he's been given a chance to succeed here, but there's more to that than meets the eye. Maybe the coaching staff doesn't like him, maybe he doesn't impress in practice, for whatever reason he's not even playing on offense whatsoever. I doubt we'd get anything for him but it's not in my hands. |

Let's trade him for Peyton Hillis.

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
So of 10 draft choices from the 2008 draft, only one player (Kareem Moore) has managed to establish himself as a starter by season 3. Thanks Vinny.

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
just very frustrating to see a high wasted pick, probably 2 of the 3 second round picks are done here in DC, being kelly and thomas. damn frustrating, but if hes not going to get on the field under this regime let him make another team i suppose. get what you can.

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
So your telling me he doesn't catch a wide open pass that hits him in stride?? He's not Carlos, I also wanna see him on the field before we trade him.

Everyone complaining that DT needed a chance on the field - he had a chance everyday in practice but clearly wasn't showing enough, either in his route running or his practice habits to let his QB's trust him in a game. Someone pointed to his game in New Orleans. Okay - where is the week in, week out performance to back that up? He's been on the field. He's had opportunities. Like Lloyd, Jacobs, Gardner, Westbrook and others before him - he just don't got it. -- Like them, he looks good on paper, can have a good game when all the stars align, but is not someone who makes coaches play him. If we get a 6th rounder for him, I would be amazed.

My god, when was the last time we drafted a successful wide receiver?

That is, unless 2 season leading the team in receiving is a success, then you have Westbrook and Gardner. Each of whom lead the team in receiving yards twice. Their totals? Westbrook: 736 and 1191 in 1998 and 1999 Gardner: 741 and 1006 in 2001 and 2002 WRs drafted since Art Monk in ascending order: 1981: Charlie Brown (Rd 8) and Jerry Hill (Rd 11) 1982: Carl Powell (Rd 3) 1984: Mark Smith (Rd 7) and Curtland Thomas (Rd 12) 1986: Walter Murray (Rd 2) and Eric Yarber (Rd 12) 1987: Ted Wilson (Rd 10) and Laron Brown (Rd 11) 1989: Eric Affholter (Rd 4) 1991: Keenan McCardell (Rd 12) 1992: Desmond Howard (Rd 1) and Terry Smith (Rd 11) 1994: Tydus Winans (Rd 4) 1995: Michael Westbrook (Rd 1) 1996: DeAndre Maxwell (Rd 7) 1997: Albert Connell (Rd 4) 1998: Patrick Palmer (Rd 6) 1999: Tim Alexander (Rd 7) 2000: Ethan Howell (Rd 7) 2001: Rod Garnder (Rd 1) and Darnerien McCants (Rd 5) 2002: Cliff Russell (Rd 3) 2003: Taylor Jacobs (Rd 2) 2008: Devin Thomas (Rd 2) and Malcolm Kelly (Rd 2) 2009: Marko Mitchell (Rd 7) 2010: Terence Austin (Rd 7) Out of that group, not one was a particularly successful Redskin. Keenan McCardell was undoubtedly the best with over 11000 yards in his career, but only 256 came as a Redskin and that was in his second stint and the final stop of his career. Desmond Howard managed a Super Bowl MVP, but that was primarily as a KR. Obviously the jury is still out on Austin, but I doubt he reaches a consistent level of success as anything more than a slot receiver. So, to recap: We suck at selecting WRs. EDIT: Corrected 1981 Draft: Had Carl Powell in Round 11, should have been Jerry Hill Last edited by jdlea; 10-05-2010 at 11:06 AM. |

All this talk about trading viable players for low draft picks is risky to me. Conceptually its great...this all assumes we can find a starter in the 4th or 5th round under the new regime....at this point that remains to be seen.

Re: RUMOR: Skins Want To Deal Devin Thomas
Really not sure either. The guy hasn't seen the field on offense so it's like like we would miss him at all. If we can find some value for him, great, Shanahan obviously doesn't see him fitting into his plans.
