We'll see what happens but I hope they don't gas up Redskins One and start chasing/ signing free agents. This team is not a couple players away. It's a couple of drafts and a few free agents away, which to me is about a 3 year process. I'm willing to wait as long as they start doing things the right way, which may mean losing more games next year.

Given how deep the FA pool is bound to be, it would dumb to not make some moves. You just have to make smart moves that are a good fit.

I never really followed Shanahan's career, but this was a tumultuous first season and at times I felt that the ship was rudderless. I agree with you that he realized that we didn't have the personnel to run his scheme, but I have to question his vetting process in trading for McNabb and giving up two picks in this years draft. I hope that in the offseason he will be able to reevaluate the talent we have and somehow remove the defeatist mentality I feel the team has. |

What made it go from close to a new deal... to slipped further apart?

I'm not saying that McNabb actually did so, but it is a possibility. Either way, there's no way for us fans to really know what's going on here. Both of them have strained my trust, although other of course will have their own reactions.

I just hope that if we get new FA's - that they that are less than 28 years old.
We KNOW we are not going to win a superbowl in the next 2 years. We're rebuilding. Let's get young players that are going to stick around for 5-7 years. There's no point in getting a 29-30 year old free agent, because by the time we get better as a team they're going to be too old. For example, D.Hall was a perfect example - because he could be here for years. |

Your joking with this right. Although they all fit the perfect Vinny Cerrato/Dan Snyder formula of the past. Big Names, Old, Vick is coming off a monster year so he'll ask for a ridiculously high contract knowing he won't touch those numbers next year and he'll probably get injured. Moss would come here and be AH all over again and give it 25 % effort and take the money and run.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Shane Lechler become available.. P from OAK most recently, one of the best punters available, spoke out about Cable firing, they hired a new P

That would be bad az. Lechler is very good. Probably get into a bit of a bidding war though. We aren't the only ones who needs a punter.

I'd be quite happy if we picked up Lechler, a current resident in Undead Al's doghouse.

7. LB Barrett Ruud(notes) – Ruud was miffed in training camp when Tampa Bay extended LT Donald Penn(notes) before they extended him. Sorry, Barrett, but that’s the reality of left tackles and inside linebackers. Ruud is very good and still young, but he would be best served re-signing with a team that knows his limitations. 8. G Davin Joseph(notes) – He’s a very good guard, but a notch below Logan Mankins. He’s the type of player who gets paid because of scarcity, not necessarily talent. On the open market, he’ll do very well, perhaps as much as $8 million a year. 1. LB LaMarr Woodley(notes) – Critics say he’s not great against the run or in coverage. But when you’re projected to average more than 10 sacks in three straight seasons, you get paid. That’s the bottom line. From Footballs Future: Jammal Brown (WAS) – With rookie Trent Williams playing the left side, Jammal Brown has started on the right side for the first time in his pro career. He struggled early in the season as he recovered from injury, but has since turned around his play. He’s a far cry from where he was in his prime, but the Redskins have had success running the ball behind him. The organization hasn’t shied away from spending money on players, but they could get a bargain in Brown, if he continues his upward ascension from injury.
