Re: Rex Grossman Named Starting QB
Beck definitely beat my expectation but starting Rex is the right call. With thh way Beck played during the preseason having him as our backup is a blessing.
Let's get it! HTTR!

Re: Rex Grossman Named Starting QB
Most of Beck's supporters seem to be from the hype that the Shanahans created, making you believe he was the guy
So if you believed them then, believe them now..

Re: Rex Grossman Named Starting QB
I have been so 50-50 on who I wanted starting, but as I argued with neighbors I found myself sticking up for Rex more than Beck. I think its a good choice. I think the way we played as a whole, regardless of W and L in the preseason, was one of the deciding factors Rex was chosen. If we looked horrible, and still looking as though we were overmatched, I think Beck would have gotten the call even if he was outplayed by Rex. I think because we looked good in preseason, moved the ball well against #1's fairly effectively, Shanny decided to go with the experience of Rex, his understanding of the offense, and the way the locker room has been behind him. I think the teams building confidence in themselves and the bright spots we witnessed in preseason is giving the team and the coaches the confidence that we may not be as far off as what they originally thought. They were going to give Beck a shot to prove himself, but like I said i think during the preseason it looked like we have improved leaps and bounds and giving Rex the job sends a message that I want to win, I expect to win and compete for the division. Starting Beck would still have signified that we are building, going to see what we have in Beck, and I think would have been a little deflating to the preseason efforts of the entire team.

Re: Rex Grossman Named Starting QB
I think Beck was being steamrolled into becoming the starter....I remember thinking, jeez, the guy has barely completed any passes and now all of the sudden, he's Joe Montana....thank god the coaches saw that he wasn't ready, he's still a full season of play away.

Re: Rex Grossman Named Starting QB
I thought Rex should start because he has way more experience in actually playing in NFL games (including some really big games) than Beck does and in the end I really think Rex's experience played a big role in Shanny's decision.

When I was a boxer, I would often beat quicker, younger, more "naturally gifted" fighters. It wasn't that difficult - they often beat themselves. All I had to do was not lose my head. Beck will be a good QB if he doesn't blow it. Not yet though - his habit of staring down receivers and throwing the ball away in-field, etc, need to be corrected. Maybe later this year, or next year even. |

Re: Rex Grossman Named Starting QB
I think Shanahan made the right move. Remember this move was based off of practice as well as game film, which we don't see. Let's see how Rex does.
