Again, we are all sad and talking tons of crap about our secondary, but like I said, were they put in a position to succeed last game? I didn't see them losing individual match-ups.

Now, let's see some more man coverage against the Bengals and we can make judgements. Even Cedric Griffin did well against the Saints and that was mostly man.

So was the blocked punt during this game the first one for our new temporary snapper? Are snappers in charge of calling out protection schemes just like centers do? I ask because one of the blocked punts in the SD/Oak game had nothing to do with the actual snap, it was just a huge block assignment mishap.

you can blame the refs, but our D was disgustingly bad and the real reason for the loss. haslett called a horrible game.

how do you let a guy get 42,381 catches on you and not stop it.

At this point I have a problem with Danny Smith's personell on the punts. He has a safety (reed doughty) in the middle responsible for picking up any defenders that get past the o-line over center. He has Doughty in there because of his ability to get down field, shed blocks and make tackles but he is not used to picking up blitzes. I would like to see an offensive back with that assignment at this poingt - a RB, FB, or TE. ANYONE with experience picking up blitzes.

Yep
Didnt Mike Sellars use to be the guy in the backfield on punts?

I honestly don't recall but I think he was. Teams are going send the house up the middle until the problem is fixed.

What I saw on replay was that Perry Riley missed his block and did not hold his guy nearly long enough. Doughty could have come across the formation for the cleanup, perhaps, but didn't. To my eyes that blocked punt is on Riley.

Yes, another defensive player expected to perform an offensive duty.

Blocking defenders is an offensive duty/task/______.

If you have two blocked punts in two games, it makes sense to find players who have experience handling blitzes/picking up defenders. Defensive players are not the best at it, offensive players are better. It is an urgent problem on our punt team and could be remedied by having someone that has experience performing the task there.

Good point. From what we've seen so far...the base D should be man coverage. Haslett best see that!

When the results are offensive, indeed.

Except when it comes to special teams.

Golston is one of our better blockers on teams.

"- Tyler Polumbus allowed seven hurries, tying Jermon Bushrod for the second most allowed in Week 2."

Right Tackle is gonna be an issue all year, getting bad play there once again.
