I think the depth is there at ILB for at the very worst, a platoon type approach if needed. Sharpton, Jordan, Compton, Hayward, etc.

Good interview. I like when he talks about Coach Harbaugh and vets getting complacent, IMO that's RAK saying I don't need to learn another pass rush move I'm OK.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

People are getting a little ahead of themselves with assuming Rak is gone. What if he has a monster season? Think they'll just let him walk if he puts up big numbers?

I know the front office was split on re-signing him, but I'm sure those that were against it could be swayed if he goes out there and knocks it out of the park.

Nothing wrong with have a guy in the wings if Orakpo does take his talents and leaves, but I don't see Murphy as a guarantee Orakpo is gone. It simply, and hopefully, makes it where the Skins aren't over a barrel, and can walk away if the two sides can't agree.

Nothing wrong with 3-4 solid OLB's especially when two are on rookie deals.

Yup, I see Murphy as leverage for the team when it comes contract time for Rak, and of course in the meantime it doesn't hurt to have more help when it comes to the rush.

It would be a real.....boon for this team to have some fresh legs in the pass rush without a huge letoff in talent.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

im excited to see what a fully healthy rak can do. no matter the scenario, i think we benefit.

if rak plays like a beast and walks = we got a beast year out of him

if rak plays decent = we can resign him for FMV if we want or let him walk if we want

I would like to say that it's not a foregone conclusion he is gone. I may have stated that too strong. They are, however, laying the groundwork to allow for that. I think Matty is correct that it gives them leverage or in the worst case scenario an option if he leaves.

However, we have some guys coming up that will require big money. Alf Mo, RG3, and Jordan Reed will all likely require fairly hefty contracts. Not to mention Kerrigan on the defensive side.

i would just replace those guys through the draft, rinse wash repeat these positions every 3-4 years.

i wouldnt pay a RB or a TE a second contract/big money unless he was an absolute stud game changer.

i just dont see alfo or reed being that but they still have a lot of football to play to prove otherwise.

while they are productive and important players on our team last year and this year, i do not believe they will be irreplaceable parts of our team 2-3 years from now.

I agree. Folks, we had more than enough cap room to sign Rak if we truely wanted to this offseason. We took the other option.

RG3 definitely, Morris for sure but Reed uh uh. He's only played one year and couldn't stay healthy in his lone season. Jordan has potential and I iiked what I saw but let's give him more than a year and see if he can stay healthy.

For what its worth I'd rather have Orakpo than Kerrigan. I'm just not sold on #91.

I don't want to see Orakpo leave, period. He's an elite pass rusher, and the best we have. If the pass rush is going to be the focal point of our defense, you don't let him walk unless he has outrageous salary demands, as in 15 million a year.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

I think the Redskins were targeting Marcus Smith, who the Eagles drafted in the first round. Smith is a boon or bust type of player. One thing that stands out about him that you can't deny is - he's got a lot of speed. I'm hoping that he doesn't have enough strength on the nfl level.

Trent Murphy is the less flashy type of player. He'll quietly produce, which in alot of ways will be good - especially for his teammates.
