Bobby McCain's cap hit was 1.5M. I hadn't seen that number, but for a starting quality safety, that is simply outstanding.

Speaking of cap, some additional info from Keim after the new cap for 2022 announcement:

@john_keim
As of now only seven teams with more cap room in 2022 than Washington. Next closest in NFC East is New York and they’re nearly 60 mil less

I wonder where he is getting his numbers from, not saying he is wrong but OTC doesn't agree though OTC is a little all over the place because of rookie signings, still $60m would seem to be a little over the top.

If you click on the 2022 tab at OTC (https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/) you will see that we are actually 5th best in the league with $60 mil in cap space. In terms of the NFC East, I think he may have gotten 2021 mixed with 2022, because in 2022, the Iggles have the next best cap situation at $21 mil; the Giants and Cowpukes seem to be in the bottom 5.

-- Looks like we're positioned nicely to re-sign young talent while also having cap room to perhaps pay for a big free agent QB if we want to.

We are definitely being smart, but also keep in mind we have no Fitz on books or the pile of guys we signed to 1-year deals. Or Allen. Or Scherff. Or Leno. Or Thomas. Etc. We shouldn't resign Scherff, but his deal alone would be almost a third of our cap space (on annualized basis).

One thing I loved when RR asked about Moses, why cut, he said Moses didn't do anything wrong, was good player, they just wanted to give young guys playing time. SO LONG since we've seen that kind of mentality. You don't pay Kerrigan. You cut Moses. You build primarily through the draft. All the sudden you have lots of good players and cap space. We could have been less aggressive in thinking long term and easily have half the cap space next year.

I think next year is a year we bid adios to the last of the holdovers. I think we'll draft S, LB, CB on D, and then OL,RB, etc.

Yeah no brainer, great contract.

Is he a starting FS? I think Reeves could challenge to start.

Oline, Safety and WR to an extent will hold the most competition for spots.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread

I can't help wondering if tagging Scherff was because they planned to drop Moses if all went to plan. Letting them both go and relying on Roullier to be the veteran anchor on the OL would make me uneasy. If they don't sign Scherff to a long term deal this year, it makes even more sense to me (draft a replacement next spring).

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread

Apparently Rivera cancelled next weeks voluntary OTAs. Wonder if it was a nod to player solitary, both for all who showed up but also be seen as tip of the hat to the nflpa.

Only 1 turned up?

I'm more inclined to think it was a reward for a good turnout etc. Not sure I see a reason RR has to wind up the NFLPA.

Can be... But my first reaction is: he's aware that he had a LOT of players showing up, some teams didn't even have OTA and the NFLPA called for a boycott, so he's grateful for his players' motivation... and he's strengthening the bond between him and the players by just giving up on one week of training in shorts.
He's saying to the guys "you show up, you work hard, I got your back, I'm on your side". And maybe he also doesn't want to create a "booo look at the bad guys who didn't come! You were working hard for 3 weeks and they were chilling at home!" effect.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread

I'm still trying to have some sort of evaluation of our free agents, I watched William Jackson III in the week 1 game against the Chargers.

+
His coverage is really good, physical, not scared, the 4.37 speed shows, good reads, covered Keenan Allen and Mike Williams with great success.

PBU against Allen

Bottom of your screen, solid coverage on Allen on a dig route

(Bottom slot) Man vs a Mike Williams' fade

(Bottom) I like this play, he seems to be in some sort of pattern matching Cover 3, he bites a little too much on the slant before detecting Hunter on the post but recovers really well IMO

-
I didn't really see that in the week 11 game against us, but in this Chargers game he looked kinda scared of contact to me. Not to keen to make plays against the run nor go make the tackle on the guy making the catch if he wasn't "his" guy. He injured his shoulder in December 2019 and that's 2020 week 1, so first real live contact since his injury. Not a huge knock, still think it's a really good signing, and having had 11 shoulders dislocations, I know the feeling, but may be something to keep an eye on. I like my corners to be agressive against the run.

This one's funny, top of your screen, good deep coverage.. the underneath guy makes the catch, and look at him dancing and turning around, he clearly sees the guy made the catch but makes one more turn to look at his guy one last time... subconsciously buying time to not have to make the tackle.

(Bottom) Doesn't look to eager to go make a play on the RB here either, does he?

(Bottom) Playing it a bit to safe there too IMO

(Top) Wouldn't you like to see him at least try to prevent the TD here ?
