I'm not paying this seeing as how I'm not married. However, you're missing the point. If I had married my ex at that point, I would've had no choice but to pay $600 a month because she had diabetes and private health insurance will not touch her.

Count me among the group that thinks that's the most ridiculous thing posted on this site in a long, loooong time.

So I guess if you are poor you should just sit in the dark, have no furniture, and basically have no possessions that you might actually take any joy from.

It's all about priorities.
We have a program out here that helps poor people go to college for free. Do you know how many take advantage of that? Very few.

Being poor and being lazy are often connected.

I tell you what matty...you show me a guy that is HONESTLY doing everything he can to make it in life, and busting his ass, just getting the shit end of the stick, and I'll change my mind for him. Those are an extreme rarity.

I'm sure there are plenty of people out there like that.

Not everyone is a bum looking for a free ride.

What program helps people go to college for free?

Weren't you without a job for a while?

Just curious if you gave up any luxuries and if your priorities were straight.

I'll have to think about the name, neither my wife, nor myself can remember the name...the program makes you take a personality test and if you seek the top 2 areas the test comes up with, the state will pay for your college.
I took the test about 7 or 8 years ago, it came up with environmental and science. It wasn't to my college credits at the time (in finance) so I wasn't accepted unless I wanted to change my degree and lose most of my credits. If I was willing to change, they would have paid for me to go to NMSU.

See, I don't agree that there are "plenty" out there, I think there are a very select few.

Never heard of such a thing, I'd be interested to see something to back up this claim.

Yup, and absolutely I did.
I changed my eating habits, I changed my electricity habits. I had my truck up for sale (took it off when I got a job). I sold several collectible items as well. I used my wife's car instead of my truck cause her car gets about 15 miles more per gallon. Completely drained and shut off the circuit breaker to my hot tub. We used to go out to eat 2 or 3 times a week, and we didn't go out at all. I also planned ahead for a rainy day, so I lasted several months without having to go all out crazy to afford to live. I also did not have insurance, I took the chance there and didn't expect a single soul to help me. It was my problem, and I handled it. I had to adjust my priorities to fit my lifestyle. Not once did I put my hand out.

ps- it's killing me I can't think of that program...I'll ask around tomorrow. Maybe it's just a New Mexico thing...not sure...but I know some of the people I work with will know the program. I'll post it here tomorrow.

Like I said, I'll ask around...I'll come up with it, cause I have a buddy that did take advantage of it. He'll know what the name of it is.

Just might be a reason people don't use this program. Tough to take advantage of it when you've never heard of it.

Re: Canadian Healthcare from a Canadian...

The department of labor was the ones who told me about it, but I can't find it online right now. I must not be looking in the right areas.

At worst, I'll call them tomorrow...they'll know.
