I also think that the media was way too early in annoting Tony Romo as the savior of the Cowboys, and Jerry Jones was way too early in offering Romo the contract that he gave him in late October. He basically set his team up for failure, because from that point on Romo didnt seem to play with the chip on his shoulder that he used to play with. The fire in is play fizzled away and he seemed unethuastic and flustered for the remainder of the season as if he was saying "No matter what happens I am going to get paid."

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

yeah, JJ def. jumped the gun on paying Romo insane money. But in his defense, what were his options? If he waited, TR could've gotten pissed and went to the highest bidder.

True, but 67 million dollars was way too much to give a player who at the time barely had one year of starting under his belt.

He also threw 36 TD passes! And you have to remember that not all INT's are the QB's fault. Does he throw too many? Probably. But he also makes a lot of positive plays as well.

After this debacle, I bet Jerry Jones is having buyer's remorse on that deal. Yes, you want to keep Romo, but this makes two straight seasons where the guy basically melted down in December/January.

Re: Can we now officially call Romo a choke artist?

I don't have a problem with Romo's contract. I think giving him that money was the right thing to do given the circumstances.

As for being a choke artist, he followed up perhaps the most infamous playoffs gaffe since Jackie Smith in the Superbowl by becoming the first number one seeded qb to lose in the divisional round in NFC history. I think he is going to have to prove us wrong on this.

Don't forget, Peyton was a choke artist before he won a superbowl...and he still might be. What would we be saying about him now if he hadn't authored that comeback against the Pats last year (which by my count is his only succesful playoff comeback to date, having failed with a chance to win at home two out of three years)?

Anyway, this is Romo's cross to bear. He made things worse for himself by diving into the limelight and he's going to have to win a Superbowl - which is tough for even the greatest non-choking qb to do - before the world gets off of his back.
