Re: Zorn becomes SKINS new OC.

Nice article on redskins.com about Zorn. "Could signal significant change in the redskins offense next year". Positive feed from JC, ready to get started with Zorn.

I think Gibbs tied Saunders hands a bit. I think we should of let him open it up see what he could do. I wish they would of made GW HC and kept Saunders.

Saunders could have been successful here given more time, but I don't hold any specific allegance to him, and I'm not all that disappointed to see him go. Zorn will reap the success that Saunders would have had. To me, that's not a big deal.
But here is my problem. JC would be going into his 3rd season w/ Al and would know the offense like the back of his hand. He would've had total command. Now he's got to start all over again for the 3rd time in 4 years?? That's just plain old stupid if you ask me. Plus all the WR's need to be on board too. You just don't see the other teams doing this to their franchise QB's. And you know it takes time for everyone to absord an NFL offense. Watch, I will bet that the offense struggles the 1st half of 08. Or perhaps Zorn will leave in some of Al's offense.

JLC Redskins Insider: Other Assistants status.

Posted at 3:00 PM ET, 01/26/2008
Someone asked about the other assistants

So Jason Reid made some calls and reports: Washington Redskins linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti, whose contract was set to expire this week, has signed an extension and is among the assistants expected to remain with the team, league sources said Saturday.
Williams and Saunders have been released, but management hopes to retain the majority of former coach Joe Gibbs's staff, according to sources. Olivadotti, 33, is highly regarded by Williams and former defensive line coach Greg Blache, who has been promoted to lead the Redskins' defense.
Despite his relative inexperience, Olivadotti's ability to identify opponents' tendencies and provide tips for Redskins defenders has helped to make him a key contributor on a coaching staff among the league's most experienced. Olivadotti also is popular with players.
UPDATE 1: Jason LaCanfora reports that the Rams and Raiders have asked the Redskins for permission to speak with Saunders about jobs and the Rams and Titans have asked for permission to speak to Williams about jobs, sources said. Apparently, teams still must do this because the two remain under contract.
Update II: Jason Reid reports that: assistant Bill Lazor, who coached the team's quarterbacks, has been fired, league sources said.
Lazor worked with Washington's quarterbacks the last two seasons. He developed a strong relationship with young quarterback Jason Campbell, whose development is a top priority for the organization.
Before joining the Redskins, Lazor spent the 2003 season as an entry-level assistant with the Atlanta Falcons. Lazor was a record-setting quarterback at Cornell

Too bad about Lazor, I would have liked it if he had stayed. Maybe they'll bump Brunell up to QB coach

Zorn has too much to do now running the offense. No time to coach QBs

He might be our new HC, but I would find it hard to see him take the QB coach job, after being one of the front runners for the HC gig. I guess we will see soon enough.

I think Zorn will end up being a good fit in DC.

JLC Redskin Insider: Zorn speaks about working with JC

Posted at 6:28 PM ET, 01/26/2008
Zorn Speaks

From Jason Reid: Just got off the phone with new Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Jim Zorn, who said he's excited about the potential of young quarterback Jason Campbell and eager to get started. As for who will be the Redskins' next head coach, Zorn said he's eager to find out as well.
"The quarterback situation is one of the reasons that I want to be there and work with Jason," said Zorn, who formerly coached the Seattle Seahawks' quarterbacks. "Focusing in on the QB is important to me. Now, I'll have the opportunity to focus on the entire offense as well as the QB, so I'm excited about that."
Zorn said he didn't want to discuss the Redskins' search for a head coach because "I really don't know what's going to happen there." With assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams expected to leave the organization because he is no longer under consideration to replace Joe Gibbs, Jim Fassel and New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo are believed to be the remaining candidates.
"I've heard a lot of names out there too," Zorn said. "I've heard some more than others. ... The main thing for me is that I think the Redskins are in really good shape. I think it's a great football team. I'm really looking forward to this."

Zorn just might be the QB coach also......as it appears

Saunders' fate was sealed when Zorn, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback coach since 2001, agreed to a three-year deal Friday. Zorn will also coach the quarterbacks, making Lazor's job redundant.

Wow, very interesting on Zorn. I wish he would delegate the responsibility. But he has been given control of the offense so he's entitled to do what he wants I suppose.

I feel bad for Lazor because he seemed like a good guy and you don't like to see people get fired, especially those who don't likely have others knocking down their doors. I mean, I suspect he's not in high demand. But it's premature to call it a stupid move by a stupid owner

Agreed that it's premature to call this dumb. Zorn is fantastic with QBs, and we don't want Campbell getting mixed messages. What if Lazor was coaching him up one way last year and changed his approach suddenly when Zorn took over? Not good for rapport with JC. Zorn is a QB guru (GTripp?) in line for an OC job. So now he's both.

I do feel badly for Lazor, but he'll figure it out. He's still very young.
