Re: Greg Blache Defensive Scheme!!

As for this scheme comparison... everybody would like to play like Jim Johnson(i.e. Gregg Williams) but before you do you better make sure you have Jim Johnson talent.

Re: Greg Blache Defensive Scheme!!

Also, I thought I heard talk about Blache possibly retiring after this year and sticking around for one more year. I don't know his contract or anything like that, but I hope he does retire after this year so we can get Gray. I expect the defense to be good this year which may keep Blache around, and if it does I expect Gray to be gone with another D-coordinator job.[/QUOTE]

and where have Gray's defenses been ranked over the last 20 or so years??? I bet you thought we should trade for Cutler too.

While I know it's not easy, try not to take it too personal. People are just voicing their opinions. You should know that goes with the territory

Re: Greg Blache Defensive Scheme!!

I pretend that I understand offense. I don't pretend to understand defense. Prior to Williams and Blache our defense sucked. After they arrived we learned to tackle overnight, became disciplined, and seemed to care about the game. I'll take my chances with Blache. Maybe the game will pass him by, but that is a better option than his predecessors who had never caught up with it.

Now I'll pretend to understand defense for a minute. Blache's philosophy seems to be:

1. Tie up the interior of the O-Line. Don't let them get moving. Don't get out-muscled between the tackles.

2. Let the WRs smell your stinky breath from the first snap and all day. Make the officials throw a flag. Don't assume the field belongs to them.

3. Use your LBS to attack the QB from the 3rd read side of the field. If T.O. is Wide Left, bring pressure from the Left. Force the QB into his reads. I think this is why McNabb is so often flummoxed against us. He can't throw to his first read. He then freezes and does his little dance.

4. Tackle. The Redskins immediately became a better tackling defense after Williams and Blache arrived. I also think Gibbs deserves credit here, as the whole team also became more physical.

70 u and I don't often agree according to my memory, but i get what you're saying here. I can't really pretend to understand defense either...every one of the points you make though are pretty much right there on the field.

...the one thing i remember thinking all the time when Williams ran the show is how much respect offensive coordinators seemed to give him (well, other than the terrible whopping NE gave us) even though we typically didn't have the talent to back it up IMO. I guess that's the smoke and mirrors right. I mean other than Springs' one season of flying out of the backfield to put the hurt on a QB we really didn't flash much...i think Williams somehow managed to keep opposing coordinators on their heels. Not sure Blache can do the same but w/ the addition of talent it shouldn't matter...I'm expecting a true top 5 defense this year...maybe #1.

And, I think, to generalize everything I say into a "just wants to be right" category would be a poor description of my character. But, yes, I am knowledgeable, and if people try to explain why I'm wrong, I'm going to go out and defend my opinion. Always. Is that arrogance? I guess, then. Sorry for knowing my shit.

Unlike some people on this board though, I'm not afraid to admit when I am wrong about something (Todd Collins), or someone. In my definition of arrogance, an arrogant person would not be able to do that.
You are like Spock.
