I think he's always been the safe fall-back

Re: Coaching Staff update

Jim Mora Jr. is out there also and by the way.

Alex Gibbs to join Carroll

And if there was any thought that Shanahan might be bringing long-time assistant Alex Gibbs with him to Washington, you can forget about it. ESPN is reporting that Gibbs, most recently the assistant head coach of offense in Houston, will be joining Pete Carroll's staff in Seattle. Gibbs is considered to be the guru behind the zone-blocking scheme that has given Shanahan so much success over the years.

Re: Coaching Staff update

I didn't think about Mora Jr. I wouldnt want him for the sole fact that he could leave for a head coaching job at the college or possibly even pro level at any given moment.

Gray appears to be the best bet for us at the moment. At the very least, we wouldn't have to go through the growing pains of switching to a 3-4 and it would allow time for his eventual on-staff replacement (probably Olivadotti) to develop so he could step in when Gray eventually lands a head coaching gig.

Well, at least he sounds better than Hixon.. I really hope Kelly, Thomas, and Mitchell will be coming on next season.. We need them to to do so, to elevate our offense..

I forgot he was our WR coach in 2001. Just about the only guy who ever got anything out of Westbrook and Gardner. Feels like an upgrade from Hixon for sure.

it says his title is Asst HC/WR's. Are we gonna create a Super Asst HC title?
He certainly sounds like a solid upgrade, so I would be happy.

Funny, I remember you mentioning in another thread that Antonio Bryant could be one of our FA targets this offseason and what do you know....this guy used to coach him. How ironic

Re: Coaching Staff update

I really hope a 3-4 isn't the outcome of whoever they pick.

Maybe just because I'm resistant to change & want to see tradition maintained, but also because we're lacking LBs & we have DTs that have never played true nose tackle, though I know one side of the line is quite similar to that.

Re: Coaching Staff update

This is how a Jim Haslett-run defense (as DC) have fared:

1996 New Orleans #20
1997 Pittsburgh #11
1998 Pittsburgh #7
1999 Pittsburgh #12

Given how some good DCs have not done such a good job as HCs (i.e. Grilliams, Spags) this may be a better way to determine how well Haslett can be as a DC.

Aaron Brooks and Rick Venturi both played a vital role in his won-loss record in NO when he was HC there.

Actually the years that I posted there (1996-1999) were the years when Haslett was defensive coordinator (and the rankings his defense got each of those years).

I thought he was DC in NO in 1996 and was DC in Pittsburgh from 1997-99
