Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread

Love AP's contract.

So far it almost feels like our FO's thinking "let's build a badass D, admit next season is a rebuilding one, and worry about the offense later"... But Jay and/or Bruce having to save their jobs, I don't see them going into the season with so many holes on one side of the ball.

Per OTC, we currently have 16.8M available, not including AP's 2.5M cap hit.
So that's 14.3M.
Could create some more space by extending Scherff (WTF are they waiting for?!!!) and cutting VD (maybe even Mason Foster but then you have to worry about ILB depth).

So we still have some cap to maneuver with.
What I would prefer to happen is us signing a proven vet at LG and a solid #2 like Donte Moncrief, then go WR/Edge rusher in the first 2 rounds... and hope you can trade for Rosen or do something at QB without compromising your future...

Rumor going around that the Skins are interested in AJ Green, this is per Keim and Finlay via twitter. I'm not sure how serious it is just throwing the thought out there.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I want us going TE if Hockensen is available at 15. Talk about an area that has felt neglected for years. You just can't count on Reed.

AJ Green was injured last year and his production has declined. So I would imagine we would do a new deal as well since he will be UFA after this year.

A WR who is clearly past his prime...I really hope we wouldn't do a lot of guaranteed money and he's not worth more than the last pick in the 3rd round.

Interesting, I'd take Green for the right price. At 31 he's still got a few more quality years left.

Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread

To me it seems like a reach for a desperate team in need of selling seats. I'd take him because we literally have one of the worst WR Cores in football but not for anything higher than a 5th rd pick. He's 31 and has had injuries of late. Mahamad Sanu has also been mentioned by Keim. It's obvious the team needs to bring in a couple WRs via draft or trade.

While AJ Green is much better player, I would prefer for us to go for FA WR such as Sanu or whoever else only because of the position Redskins are at now. We are not one WR away from being a contender, thus we should not give up much for a player who will not be with us in few years later.

I wouldn't necessarily call this desperate. AJ Green makes any offense automatically better. I mean the Red Rifle is not an elite QB by all means. I think AJ Green, AP/Guice/CT, and a healthy QB can get something done with how good our defense looks.

Wonder if they would take Green for Doctson and a 5th?

Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread

If Green was 35 I'd call trading for him desperate. But at 31 it's not crazy to think he can still be a very productive WR for another 2-3 years.

I really hope this isn't true about Green. With all the issues we've had w/ injuries, why would they go after Green? How about develop one of your own Wr's. How about draft one or two that can actually stay on the field and produce.

That is a lot to ask for with only 14.3 million available and still needing to draft. Agree cuts need to be made but as you point at what cost? I never feel like the Skins ever go in with an adequate amount of $ and are always up against the cap going into FA and draft. Would love for them to blow the whole thing up and go into a full rebuild.

Agreed, he hurt his toe last year, came back and re-injured it, not a good sign.
A lot of skill position players decline quickly after 30.

Re: Redskins Free Agency Thread

Trading for AJ Green would not hinder the development of young players or stop the team from drafting a WR.

I think injuries would be a concern and the money of course. But a healthy AJ Green in 2019 would be huge for the team.
